So first of all, in the beginning God created heaven and the earth...

So God then said 'let there be light'

And at the speed of light there was light!

oh come on.. thats amazing..!

Its not as if God saw some light on holiday and said 'that will be good back on earth'.

So this means that he created the heaven and the earth in the dark?

I would of gone 'lets have a little bit of light so I can see what I am doing'

Can someone shed some light on this please

Thanks

It is amazing and even more mystical is that the sun, moon and stars were not created until the fourth day.

God is light and in Him is no darkness. There are many types of light and more than a few we cannot see, it kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?

In the first start of things.

Boanerges

God is light and in Him is no darkness.

It is written that in the very start of things God created the Heavens and the earth. Earth being the prime focus in the Word because out of all those planets in the heavens that is where God was going create Life.

Light is very interesting, without Light, life can not exists. In the light of God, life can function, so we should look at it that way and not Light that we can see.

There are spectrum's of light we can not see that are essential to life. Some scientist disagree that is has to be sunlight, but there is not enough study on the matter, and a possible organism that does not need Sunlight but energy to survive. (Anaerobes) though more testing needs done as Quantum physics and light based applications are new.

In the Genesis account, the heavens and earth were created at the start then the scriptures come into focus on Earth itself. The earth was without form or void. In Hebrew the earth was laid waste and corrupted, meaning that something possibly happened on a grand scale to the earth that completely destroyed it.

Jer 4:23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.
Jer 4:24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.
Jer 4:25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.
Jer 4:26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.

Jeremiah gives the same account. The earth had no people and no life. Something happened to it, something big. We see that there was a fruitful place and cities but they were destroyed and broken.

This event described in Jeremiah does not continue evenly into Jeremiah chapter 5. Was Jeremiah describing a judgment that happened before Adam and Eve? A warning that God judged once and he will do it again.

Some believe that Earth was populated by God's first creation the Angels. We know that they assume human form and possibly had cities on earth. This would explain some of these ancient findings that appear to be over 6,000 years old. It would also explain what could have possibly happened to the dinosaurs.

(Talking about Satan)
Isa 14:16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
Isa 14:17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

Isaiah 14:17 describes Satan being the cause and effect as making the Whole world a wilderness. This is something that already happened as Satan's last attempt to take over does not end with the earth being destroyed but himself defeated and bound for 1,000 years until he is released on last time to deceive the nations right after the tribulation period.

It is also written that the angels did not keep their first estate (Function in the confines of which they were created for.)

In any case, we could use more scriptures to back this theory of Satan's fall at the begging and God starting over with a creations that was created in His image, being just like him as Angels were just spirits and not on the level as man.

So when God said let there be light, it also meant that the creation of life was possible as all life is Dependant on God and He upholds all things by the word of his power, even the air we breath is sustained by the Word.

Chad let me back.

Be blessed Everyone!!!

Dont think we wanted an essay about it

God will punish you now

good effort though

Hi, doyle369: Genesis 1:3, does say "let there be light" but to understand this, you have to look at it in its context.

Genesis 1:1, says God created the heavens-(starry heavens, solar system including the sun) then God's attention was directed to the earth.

When God said let there be light, at this moment in time, the earth was actually covered in water, and darkness covered the water. (Genesis 1:2) I believe there was a thick dark cloud formation in the upper atmosphere that covered the water, thus making it dark, and the sun light was mealy prevented from reaching the water by the cloud.

When God said, let there be light, that was simply the start of the re-formation of the earths surface. He caused the thick dark cloud to dissipate, thus allowing light in.

Then, He went on in Genesis 1:6 to separate the water, in a canopy effect, today we know massive amounts of water can be held high up in the atmosphere in the form of vapor. Then in Genesis 1:8, God called the expanse between the two, the sky.

Then, God caused land and vegetation to appear. (Genesis 1:10, 11)

Now this is the interesting point, in Genesis 1:14, God says again, let there be light. But notice the bible says, like the NLT, God said let there be GREATER light, or an increase of light. This can be explained by my initial comment. As the thick cloudy darkness gradually dissipated, the volume of light would increase, thus when God said, let there be light in Genesis 1:3, that was the start of clearing away the thick dark cloudy mass, and when God said let there be greater light, that was the completion of the proses.

I hope that CLEARS things up for you.

Yeah! And there was light! What light? As Jigger said the sun, moon, and stars were not made for another three days.
Bo pointed out that God is light...
So? "Let there be light! and there was a 'revelation of God!!

The misconception that "the sun, moon, and the stars were not made for another three days", or on "the fourth day", is a common one. At Genesis 1:1, it clearly states: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."(King James Bible) Thus, the heavens, composed of the sun, moon, stars and the earth, were created "in the beginning." At Genesis 1:4, the Hebrew word ’ohr for "light" is used, whereas at verses 14-16, the Hebrew word ma·’ohr´ is used for "light". What is the meaning of each, since both can mean "light" ?

The Hebrew word ’ohr means light in a general sense (and is used in six other places, Gen.1:18, Judges 19:26, Neh 8:3, Ec 2:13, Ec 11:7) whereas ma·’ohr´means the source of light. Genesis 1:4 says that "God saw the light (’ohr ), that it was good: and God divided the light (’ohr ) from the darkness."(King James Bible) Day four saw dramatic changes: “Then God continued, saying, ‘Let there be lights (ma·’ohr´) in the expanse of the heavens to divide between the day and the night, and they shall be for signs and for seasons and for days and years. Also they shall be for lights (ma·’ohr´) in the expanse of the heavens to give light (’ohr ) upon the earth’; and gradually it came to be so. Accordingly God proceeded to make the two great lights (ma·’ohr´), the greater light (ma·’ohr´ ) as a ruler of the day, and the lesser light (ma·’ohr´) as a ruler of the night, likewise the stars.”(Genesis 1:14-16, Watts)

Hence, on day one, light in a general sense, or diffused light, gradually (or "proceeded to make.” Hebrew, wai·ya´‛as. Progressive action indicated by the imperfect state) came to be visible to the earth, penetrating the cloud layers that surrounded it. The rotating earth thus began to have alternating day and night. (Gen 1:1-3, 5) As a result, "God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night."(Gen 1:5, King James Bible) The sources of that light (ma·’ohr´) still remained invisible from the earth. During the fourth creative period, however, a notable change took place. The sun, the moon, and the stars were now made “to shine upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:17) “God proceeded to make” them in that they could now be seen from the earth.

It is also of interest that the Hebrew word rendered “make” (Hebrew ‛a·sah´) in Genesis 1:16 is not the same as the word for “create” (Hebrew ba·ra’´) used in Genesis chapter 1, verses 1, 21, and 27. “The heavens” that included the luminaries ("greater and lesser lights") were created long before the “first day” even began.

UM...read the account again In one usage 'light' means illumination and in the other 'light' means 'a revelation of God'.

Consider these: Genesis 1v2 and 2 Corinthians 4:6;
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. The First Light that was "created"(Note: the word create is not the same thing as made) does not at anytime connotes natural Light rather it speaks of the Spiritual Light which is also equal to God Himself. It takes revelation to understand Genesis 1 more importantly Genesis Chapter 2 & 3. The whole Scriptures can be sum up into that chapters...
John 1:5-9;
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
1 John 1:5;
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

So, my friends, It takes revelation to understand the Bible, more importantly the FOUNDATION which is Genesis. If you have the revelation of the book Genesis then it will very much easy to grasp the Light in the rest of the scriptures because it will all Point you back to Revelation of JESUS CHRIST. Consider the beginning of Book of Revelation chapter 1 and compare it with Genesis 1. Any revelation?

God bless
