The commandments vs the Law

but wait a minute.... aren't the 10 commandments the Law? No, they are a small part of the law, but they certainly are no where close to the entire old testament law.

Under the new covenant, there are a lot of things we don't have to do anymore.
No more priests.
No more more animal sacrifices.
No more confession to priests.
No more circumcision.
No more stoning people.
No more Talmud, and the 600 rules that go with it.
No more blood on the door for passover.
No more grain offerings.
No more hidden inner Holy of Holies that only the high priest can go into.
No more having to go through a priest or prophet in order to talk to God.
... when the New testament speaks of "the Law", and says we aren't under the Law anymore... these are things it is talking about.

But we still have to keep the commandments.
Just because it's the new testament, and there is grace doesn't mean you can do anything.
You still can't kill anyone, or steal from anyone, or have sex with anyone, or worship other gods, or even take Gods name in vain.
Doing these things will absolutely keep you out of the kingdom of God. You don't have to be 100% perfect. But you can't practice these things, you can't live in these sins.

Matt 5:19; "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matt 19:17; And He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."
Mark 10:19; "You know the commandments, 'DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, Do not defraud, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.'"
Luke 1:6; They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.
Luke 18:20; "You know the commandments, 'DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.'"
John 14:15; "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
John 14:21; "He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him."
John 15:10; "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.

1Jn 2:3; By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.
1Jn 2:4; The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
1Jn 3:22; and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.
1Jn 3:24; The one who keeps His commandments abides in Christ, and Christ abide in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
1Jn 5:2; By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments.

Rom 13:8; Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
Rom 13:9; For this, "YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL, YOU SHALL NOT COVET," and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
Rom 13:10; Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Eph 6:2; HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise),
Heb 10:26; For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

1Cor 6:9; Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
1Cor 6:10; nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

Gal 5:19; Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Gal 5:20; idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
Gal 5:21; envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Matt 7:23; "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

Rev 21:8; "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

1Cor 7:19; Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but what matters is the keeping of the commandments of God.

Matt 15:3; And He answered and said to them, "Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?
Mark 7:8; "Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men."

this has been on my mind, Jesus says we need to keep his word, there is a ton of scripture in the NT that say keep his commandments. I also like how scripture has spelled out so clearly that if you do certain things and remain doing them you are not getting in heaven.

John 14:15
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.

1 John 2:3
And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.

John 15:10
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.

But we still have to keep the commandments.

what commandments are these you speak of I guess the ones you listed??? I always thought they were the 10 commandments and of course they all boil down to loving God above all else and loving our neighbor.

Reason I am asking I see so many people no going to church, is that braking the commandment that says Keep his sabbath Holly??

This has been debated a long time.
Some believe the Sabbath is the 7th day. The Bible says God rested on the 7th day.
The seventh day would be Saturday, not Sunday. ( Matt 12:5-6; )

The Bible says both Jesus and Paul preached on the Sabbath (perhaps other days also) Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:31; Luke 6:6; Acts 13:42-44; etc...
Because of this Seventh Day Adventists have services on Saturday.

There is another point of view that says, Saturday is a day of rest, but Sunday is a day of worship. (Jesus rose on Sunday).
Paul preached on the first day of the week (Sunday) Acts 20:7;
