Being Misled to Sexual Immorality
Revelation 2:18-21 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“18To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like a blazing fire and whose feet are like polished bronze. 19I know your deeds—your love, your faith, your service, your perseverance—and your latest deeds are greater than your first.
“20But I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads My servants to be sexually immoral and to eat food sacrificed to idols. 21Even though I have given her time to repent of her immorality, she is unwilling.”
We live in a day and time when addictive sin, especially that of sexual immorality, is largely being tolerated in today’s market-driven institutional “churches” which are of the flesh of man, and not of God. And this is not speaking only of the MEGA churches, but of all gatherings of the church, the body of Christ, which have incorporated (joined, merged, combined) with the state (the government) and with the world in unholy unions, which God forbids. The majority of them appear to be pacifying and tolerating sin.

Sadly, and I just read some recent statistics on this subject, it appears that around 80% of Christian men, and about 40% of Christian women are engaged in viewing pornography. I think it was 50% or greater, the number of pastors who engage in pornography. But it isn’t just that they all engage in the viewing of porn on a somewhat habitual or consistent basis, but this has been accepted among many pastors and church fellowships as the norm, it would appear, from what I just read, and which I have also observed.
A Call of God to Repent
Revelation 2:22-23 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“22Behold, I will cast her onto a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer great tribulation unless they repent of her deeds. 23Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.”
So God is, and has been for a long time, calling out to the church, to all who profess faith in Jesus Christ who are sinning willfully and habitually against God, to repent of all known sins in their lives and to submit to the will and purpose of God for our lives. For God will judge his adulterous people for their sins of adultery and idolatry and disobedience to our Lord’s commands, in life practice. And those who refuse to repent, and who choose their sins over God, they will not have salvation from sin nor eternal life with God.
Those Who Obey God
Revelation 2:24-25 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“24But I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned the so-called deep things of Satan: I will place no further burden upon you 25than to hold fast to what you have until I come.”
But thank the Lord, not all who profess faith in Jesus Christ are still living in sin, doing what is evil in the eyes of the Lord, as a matter of life practice. Even if we once did, we have denied self, died to sin (repented of our sin), and we are now living to please God in walks of obedience to his commands, as a matter of life practice, yet not necessarily in absolute perfection. But lack of perfection is never to be used as an excuse for deliberate and habitual sin against the Lord which will face the judgment of God.
So the encouragement to all of us here who are not habitually and deliberately yielding to sin’s control, but who are walking by faith in obedience to our Lord, in his power, strength, and wisdom, is that we are to continue in our walks of surrender to the Lord until Jesus returns and he takes his faithful bride to be with him for eternity. We are not to waver in opinion, going back and forth between sin and obedience, but we are to remain steadfast in obedience until our Lord returns to take us home.

Woe to me should I not preach Jesus.
I’m compelled to preach the full gospel.
I make myself a slave to ev’ryone
To win their hearts to Christ.
All this I do for my Lord Jesus,
And for the sake of His Name;
Do it for the sake of His gospel,
So that I, its blessings gain.
Scripture notates the sins of others;
Written down for us as examples
To keep us from setting our hearts
On evil as did those of old.
Do not worship other gods of man;
Do not give your hearts to them;
Not partake in immorality.
Do not test your Lord and King.
So, be careful if you think you are
Standing firm in your faith in Jesus.
God has given his word to warn us,
So through faith we will not fall.
No temptation has o’ertaken you
Except what is commonplace.
God is faithful to not let you be
Tempted past what you can bear.
He gives the way of escape.
