On the day of Pentecost, God did a miracle through the preaching of the apostle Peter. About three thousand people came to faith in Jesus. Afterward, these people started doing things that have stood as examples for Christians for almost two thousand years since.
These people’s growth in their faith wasn’t complicated. It was built on some basics that have characterized growth in faith for every Christian since then. These basics are the things you should make priorities in your life of faith.
Your faith will become unshakable when you do as the first generation of Christians did: devote yourself to the apostles’ teaching (reading and listening to the Word of God), to fellowship (spending time with your Christian brothers and sisters), to the breaking of bread (remembering what Jesus has done for you), and to prayer (talking to and listening to God).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me the example of the early church. You still use that first generation of Christians to show me the importance of time spent in Your written Word, fellowship with other believers, reflection on what You did for me when You died on the cross, and daily prayer. May I never neglect any one of those things.
