The Army of the Lord

friend was in front of me coming out of church one day, and the preacher was standing at the door as he always is to shake hands. He grabbed my friend by the hand and pulled him aside.

The Pastor said to him, "You need to join the Army of the Lord!"

My friend replied, "I'm already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor." Pastor questioned, "How come I don't see you except at Christmas and Easter?"

He whispered back, "I'm in the secret service."

This is a funny joke, but probably in another way than what was intended.

The pastor thinks the man isn't a participant in the Lord's army because he isn't a regular participant of religious liturgy.

Now, I was in the military and I know first hand that no battle has ever been won while the army is in garrison, let alone, asleep in their barracks. Now that there was funny.

Many years back now though, over 28-30 years back, I think.
