Save us, O LORD our God! Gather us back from among the nations, so we can thank your holy name and rejoice and praise you. Psalm 106:47 NLT

Lost people need to be rescued, and the beauty of this predicament is when grateful people ask God for help, He helps. It means they have spent time considering their situation and have discovered that no matter how hard they’ve tried, they can’t rescue themselves.

The writer of Psalm 106 understood this place of mental paralysis. He could have hated the place where he was but refused to ask God for help. But the exact opposite was the reality. The psalmist admitted his nation’s role in becoming lost but recognized God as the Rescuer. He had taken the time to consider what life would be like after rescue, and that brought about a heart of gratitude and a God cheer. Maybe this was also partly because he could also remember how hard it was without rescue.

You can thank God today for blessings you have yet to receive. It’s an aspect of faith when you believe God will supply before He actually supplies. Offer thanks before blessings—and again when God blesses.

Prayer: Father, I will need everyday rescues. I cannot rescue myself, but knowing that You can and will help me is a relief and a cause for a heart of gratitude. Thank You.
