For it is by grace you are saved through faith; it is not your own doing. It is God’s gift, not a reward for work done. There is nothing for anyone to boast of; (Eph 2:8-9, REB)
By God’s act you are in Christ Jesus; God has made him our wisdom, and in him we have our righteousness, our holiness, our liberation. Therefore, in the words of scripture, ‘If anyone must boast, let him boast of the Lord.’ (1Cor 1:30-31, REB)
for you have been granted the privilege not only of believing in Christ but also of suffering for him. (Phil 1:29, REB)
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; (Phil 1:29, KJV)
for it is God who works in you, inspiring both the will and the deed, for his own chosen purpose. (Phil 2:13, REB)
The preceding statements in God’s word truly offend the natural man.
There are things hidden, and they belong to the Lord our God, but what is revealed belongs to us and our children for ever; it is for us to observe all that is prescribed in this law. (Deut 29:29, REB) *We are not to pry into the hidden and secret things of God like who is of the elect; we are to obey God word and teach our children to do likewise.
All the more then, my friends, do your utmost to establish that God has called and chosen you. If you do this, you will never stumble, (2Pet 1:10, REB) *We are to establish that we, ourselves are called, the chosen, ….NOT judge the election of others.
