Television ... get rid of or keep?

I have become aware that I've started watching secular tv programmes again. I'm conscious that I could spend my time much more productively and wondered whether anyone else has taken the brave step of getting rid of their tv once and for all?

(I do watch Christian programmes sometimes but when there's not much on those channels I find myself channel hopping.)

Believe it or not, I would rather have my laptop with me the whole day so I can have much fun here in TJ than to sit and switch on tv , regardless of various channels. lol

For about ten months of joining here now, i have enjoyed hopping to three major channels here : Chat room, forums and arcade. hehehe

Praise God for this wholesome and Christ-centered site. hallelujah!

Thanks mc for your reply - it kind of confirms the way i've been thinking lately - that I could spend time a lot more productively on TJ or reading my bible. The only thing is I have a fifteen year old son who's not yet following Christ who likes to get his tv fix, especially when he has friends round. He doesn't live with me all the time though - just weekly.

Oh, I see. Now, I understand. Here, I have my 13-year old niece staying with me. TV addict as well. But we only have 3 channels available for her to switch. Nevertheless, once she starts sitting on a couch, she's sticks to it for almost hours. Some programs are nice, others are not. What I do , i give her curfew til 8pm every night after dinner and doing her school assignments. And from time to time, I check her and the programs she's watching. If not good and useless, turn off. I also encouraged her to join here in TJ. She's already warned about dirty and useless tv programs by her father, a pastor.

In your case, I suggest you would keep it . Just guide your son and enjoy watching with him from time to time as your weekend rendezvous ;-)

I keep our tv for my old mom and niece sake. But I can live without it;-)
