Jesus said.....
Luke 9:23 And he said to them all If any man will come after me, LET HIM DENY HIMSELF, AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS DAILY, and follow me.
Luke 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Taking up one's cross is connected to “DENYING” one's self! Jesus denied himself to follow only what his father's will was for him, which happened to be the cross! What exactly is our cross anyway, and how can we located it so we can take it up?
The cross we are supposed to take up is the same cross Jesus was crucified on!
Gal 2:20 I AM CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST: nevertheless, I LIVE; YET NOT I, BUT CHRIST LIVETH IN ME: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Denying yourself is in denying you are still alive, and you have died on the “cross” with Jesus, and it is no longer you who is alive, but Christ is living inside you!!!
Ever wondered how can a person get eternal life when God is the only one who lives forever?
The reason why all “born again” Christians have eternal life right now is because they died on the cross with Jesus, and Jesus Christ, who is God, has now become our new life!!!
Col 3:1 IF YE THEN BE RISEN WITH CHRIST, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Col 3:3 FOR YE ARE DEAD, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Col 3:4 WHEN CHRIST, WHO IS OUR LIFE, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Very very few Christians actually believe this, and they think someday we will sit in Heavenly places, and get eternal life!!! They have never denied them self's or taken up their cross to follow Jesus!
The Apostle John said....
1Jn 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. (ESV)
This is very very easy to believe.....
Because "faith" (believing) is NOT something we conjure up in our head by ourselves! Faith comes from the Word of God who freely gives it to us if we choose to receive it!!!
Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Faith comes by “hearing” the voice of Jesus!
His sheep hear his voice and they follow him!
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
How can a person experience sitting on the right hand of God in Christ to follow Jesus to where he is right now without knowing and believing this?
Mat 10:38 And HE THAT TAKETH NOT HIS CROSS, AND FOLLOWETH AFTER ME, IS NOT WORTHY OF ME.
