Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. 1 Corinthians 1:7-8 NLT
Milo of Croton lived in the sixth century BC and dominated strength competitions across the ancient Greek world. According to legend, Milo once carried a four-year-old bull around the arena then butchered and ate it all in the same day.
Physical strength is often part of a man’s identity, but it isn’t the most important form of strength in the Christian life.
In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul says that God will keep believers strong to the end so they‘ll be blameless when Christ returns. This isn’t a strength we can supply on our own. It comes by the grace of God. In essence, God’s grace is strong enough to overcome our sin.
By ourselves, we are as powerless s the bull Milo of Croton carried. Our diets and workout routines, physical and spiritual, mean nothing before the Almighty’s righteousness. Thank God that Jesus has worked out our salvation for us.
Live today in God’s strength. Exercise your spiritual gifts for Him. Feast on His words. Rest in His goodness.
Prayer: Almighty God, I am strong in Your love. Help me exercise it for others today.
