Spiritual Retreat Wanted

Both my wife and I are non christians and after watching a programme on the TV last night about some ladies spending some time in a convent, we agreed that it would be good if there was a similar place in England where couples can go and learn about the things of the soul. We would appreciate any thoughts and advice you have. Thanks.

I am a christian, but when I wasn't I also had the urge and needs to learn more about the spiritual aspects of life. Thoughts and ideas and just wonderful things about life. I did not find any places I could learn, except through personal interaction with people.

I agree it would be much easier just to get in the car and go for a weekend to some place and learn more about the "soul", it makes for a nice retreat. But you have to consider all the aspects. Opening you life up to certain people in the name of religion or spiritual enlightenment could be a huge mistake. Satan could use these people to send you a false message and I don't think that's what God wants.

There are a few people from England on this forum and I think it could be a great idea if you asked them if there are any Christian places you could visit for a weekend or a short holiday.

Excuse me for speaking to you like you are a christian. It's better to find this information out from christian people, then you will know that it is God's will.

Don't be confused by false teachings and don't open yourself up for false teachings. Try and find a christian oriented place that you can spend time learning about God. He ultimately has all the anwers about the soul.

A good thing also could be if you and your wife bought a Bible and read it together, the spiritual knowledge a person builds up by reading a simple Bible story is nothing less than astounding.

1Corinthians2:11-16
11 No one can know what anyone else is really thinking except that person alone, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. 12*And God has actually given us his Spirit (not the world’s spirit) so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. 13*When we tell you this, we do not use words of human wisdom. We speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.* 14*But people who aren’t Christians can’t understand these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them because only those who have the Spirit can understand what the Spirit means. 15*We who have the Spirit understand these things, but others can’t understand us at all. 16*How could they? For,
“Who can know what the Lord is thinking?
Who can give him counsel?”*
But we can understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
 
So the question would be what must i do to be saved? Repent and believe the Gospel. You can do this in your own home, God does not dwell in temples made with hands:star: I was saved by God in my bedroom, with a bible and saying the lords prayer.

Just believe and repent, and you will recieve the Gift of the holy spirit, both you and your wife and family if they also believe. But be carefull afterwards, the enemy Satan, comes to take the word out of your heart as soon as you begin to believe. So keep your thoughts pure and full of faith, God will save you and make himself known to you, if you are serious about salvation. Also read John 3:16 as a starter...

Hello friends - the programme I believe you are referring to was filmed at the Poor Clares Convent in Arundel. I think it is very courageous of you to consider taking the first step to what I hope will be a lifetime of devotion and enlightenment. I am not sure about England but I do know of several places here in Ireland - some Catholic, others non denominational and if you wish to PM me I will search for them and give you a listing to consider. The Good Shepherd will welcome you into His flock with open arms.

Thank you all for the advice, but if I had asked how do I get saved, then some of the replies would have been more relevant to me. I know there are plenty of places I can go to find out about salvation, but what came across in the programme was the love show by the nuns in a quiet and caring way. I will not be bullied into salvation.

I read this reply and at first I decided not to answer it, but upon prayerful consideration I am led to a change of mind.

"The love shown by the nuns" as you describe it comes from a heart that is changed, enriched and filled by the Holy Spirit of God as a result of an act of acceptance of Christ as the Lord and Saviour of one's life.

No one is trying to bully you into salvation and no one should ever try to coerce anyone into making a choice for salvation. But, to truly experience the peace, love, joy and caring that you observed in those nuns, you should know that it is the salvation experience that fills us with the Holy Spirit of God and enables the love, devotion and caring you observed.

Those who have recommended salvation to you, did so out of a knowledge that such devotion and commitment are not fully possible without a full Spiritual relationship with God thru the salvation of Jesus Christ.

I wish you well in your searching for an awakening of your spirit and I do not and will not bully or coerce you. I am simply sharing the truth of God's word and his promises as did the others here.

I wish God's blessings for you and your wife and I hope you find the answers that you are seeking

Perhaps it is because I am not a Christian that I misunderstood what was meant by the posts. I cannot see what you can see, hear what you can hear or feel what you can feel. I know that people here mean well, and seeking a retreat may not be the way for my wife and I to go. The peace and love show by the nuns was so enticing that both of us thought we "would like some of that". Still, we don't always get what we want.
 
I encourage you to seek and continue seeking until you are satisfied. There are so many ways that we are drawn to the Lord that who am I to discourage you in anyway! I do not discourage you, rather I encourage you I exhort you I implore you to seek the source of the love and caring that so impressed you.

It is I who will be cheering you onward. It is I (and others here) who will be praying for a fruitful journey for you and your wife. Be not discouraged but step out and seek the source of love and devotion that touched you. Then come back here and tell us all about what you are doing and what you have learned.

In the meantime if I or anyone else can be of help or service to you as you are seeking you have only to ask either in this forum or through email that I promise to respond to.
