In the aftermath of the contentious 2016 national election, Ernie Johnson host of NBA TNT Tip-Off, spoke these amazing words: “I never know from one election to the next, but I always know who’s on the throne. And I’m on this earth because God created me, and that’s who I answer to, I’m a Christian. I follow this guy to love others. And scripture also tells us to pray for our leaders, and that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna pray for Donald Trump.”
In a time when a large number of people in the Unites States felt hopeless and deeply anxious, Johnson spoke from the heart a message of hope and peace. In doing that, he was a flesh-and-blood example of what obedience to today’s verse looks like. When you encounter people who need to hear the words of hope you call the Gospel of Jesus Christ, you should always be prepared to tell them about the Source of your inner peace and hope.
