Speaking through the Holy Spirit?

Hi Brothers and sisters,
Has anyone ever had a conversation and later thought I should have engaged the Holy Spirit before that conversation. As I've found that I've missed out on opportunities to speak God's word when I haven't specifically asked the Holy Spirit to help me before the conversation took place.
Has anyone else had the same experiences? Should we always engage the Holy Spirit before we speak? Or is it something that is meant to be said from the Lord, so then it is automatic and we don't need to ask for the help of the Holy Spirit?

I believe you're right Josephine, we should always include the Holy spirit in our conversations. Even though I should, I seldon think of him at the time, although he often gives me the words to speak anyway. When we pray the Lords prayer and pray for those in authority we often pray for the Lord to speak through us when we meet people, but not always. When you are speaking though, if scriptures come to mind that are relevant to the conversation, you can be sure, it is the Spirit bringing them to mind. He brings to mind scriptures we have fed on in the past.

Thank you Trevor,
Like you I often forget and find myself annoyed for not asking for the Holy Spirits input.
I will try my hardest to always remember Him in future.. But I am so forgetful.. Perhaps a tattoo on my hand would help? Only joking! :grinning:

Actually Josephine the Lord dwells within us all and and when we need him, he is always there, and the scriptures we have fed on, he will, as we need, remind us of.

Personally, this has been my practice since I was "born from above" in 1979, because I was so, "ignorant" to the things of "God" and the "Bible" and didn't even Know what the "Holy Spirit" was, only thing I knew, it was "God" in me. And a lot of church people told me that's not God in you, that's just the Holy Spirit. So I would pray and ask God to show me, and guide me to books at the book store, I would browse the shelves for hours prayer on which book to buy, And when I Would begin my day, my prayer would be this way for over 40 plus years now . "Oh Heavenly Father, may thy "blesseth Spirit" guide me into truth and righteousness as I go about by my day"! Because I did not know how to witness, I did not know how to walk in the "Spitit", I did not know which words He wanted me to speak, or when to be quiet, and just listen, either if people where right or wrong in their assessment of His word. I didn't know a lot of words to express myself, So I had to trust God, that He would have the Holy Spirit guide me in all truth and what words to use, and how to use them, when to speak, and to shut up! Through many trials and errors. That Prayer now is in me, I do not have to take time to pray that prayer anymore, It has become a part of my "total being" it has been shaped and molded into me, I don't have to stop and take time to pray it. That prayer is me! That prayer was my earnest desire!, "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and "He shall give you The desires of thine heart"! For how else could I learn, for I trusted no man! I had God now, why would I trust in a mortal man?
I never have prayed to "the Holy Spirit" neither have I ever prayed to "Jesus". I just obeyed " Jesus", He said pray to the Father in my name,

Prayer Promises

23“In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. 24“Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.

25“These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but will tell you plainly of the Father. 26“In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; 27for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father.28“I came forth from the Father and have come into the world; I am leaving the world again and going to the Father.”

I am not saying, you cannot do this way or that way and pray to the Holy Spirit and have a conversation with him, "I don't know". I am not saying it is wrong, "I don't know"! But one thing I do know, I can go straight to the Father in the name of "Jesus" Because He gave me instructions How to get to the Father, and why, I can get to "The Father"! And "Jesus has never Lied". "I Don't Have Any Questions For Jesus" I question Jesus about nothing! Why would I , "I have acccess to The Father"! Remember, I do, know how to read! A kindergarten can understand that, "English Syntax"! It does not take a "Rhodes Scholar" or a "biblical interpreter"to understand that portion of the text of Holy Scripture! It just takes a "Fool" like me to be a big enough of a "Fool" to believe it!:p And in this case: "I am a "Stone Fool" standing on a "Solid Rock" and cannot be move!

God is good, let us continue to draw closer to Him, than the World!

Now, have a bless day!
