"And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns [are] with you and you dwell among scorpions; do not be afraid of their words or dismayed by their looks, though they [are] a rebellious house. Ezekiel 2:6 NKJV
God has given Ezekiel a difficult assignment. He would speak to a rebellious people, and most of them would refuse to listen to him. God warned the prophet that their rejection would feel like briers, thorns, and scorpion stings. Yet He told Ezekiel not to give in to despair or fear but to continue speaking God’s messages.
Ezekiel is one of many men in the Bible who faced opposition—sometimes violent opposition—when he spoke the words God told him to speak. Yet he stood up, unshaken and without fear, and obeyed his God.
While you may not face the kind of opposition Ezekiel and other men of God faced, there still may be times when you feel some fear or trepidation when God asks you to speak His truth. But God will tell you the same thing He told Ezekiel: Don’t be afraid! Speak up!
Prayer: Lord, I live in a rebellious world filled with rebellious people. It seems like very few want to hear Your truth or respond to Your love. Please give me opportunities to speak Your truth and the courage I need to speak it.
