1 Jn 5:13; These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
These things I have written... what things? What did he write?
If we go through the book of first John, what things did John write to Christians... that they may know... they have eternal life?
1 Jn 1:6; If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;
1 Jn 1:7; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
This is really about repentance. We have to quit living in sin and darkness, and start living in righteousness and the light.
1 Jn 1:8; If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.
1 Jn 1:9; If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 Jn 1:10; If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
We have to confess our sins. We have to realize that no matter how "good" we think we are, it's not good enough.
1 Jn 2:4; The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
1 Jn 2:5; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
1 Jn 2:6; the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
We have to keep the commandments. If you don't and you say you're a Christian.. you're a liar. Plain and simple.
We are supposed to walk in the same manner Jesus walked. We are supposed to act and live like Jesus did.
1 Jn 2:15; Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1 Jn 2:16; For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
1 Jn 2:17; The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
We can't love "the world" more than we love God. If you love the world... the love of the Father is not in you. Plain and simple.
The one who does the will of God... lives forever. You have to be obedient to God.
1 Jn 2:22; Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.
1 Jn 2:23; Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.
You have to believe that Jesus is the Christ. That He is God made manifest among men. Anyone who denies does not have God, plain and simple.
1 Jn 2:26; These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you.
1 Jn 2:29; If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.
In order to be born of God, born from above, born again.... you have to practice righteousness.
.... to be continued ...
