So, just what are you thankful for?
No really, stop and give this some thought. In truth, all of us have much to be thankful for. The Word of God says, "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God." Well, that's pretty clear and direct, wouldn't you say? If not, perhaps this bit of Scripture can help. "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father." Christians have more to be grateful for than all others. Romans speaks of unbelievers who refuse to honor God or give Him thanks. It says that they are given over to their futile thinking and foolish ways. But not believers.
Paul reminds us in Chapter 6 of Romans, "Thanks be to God, though you were formerly slaves of sin you have become obedient from the heart... and have become slaves of righteousness." In the book of Corinthians, Paul gives thanks for the grace that has saved us, filled us, and will sustain us until Christ's return. In his book to the Ephesians he is thankful that their eyes were opened and their hearts enlightened to the hope of God's calling. Paul goes on in his other Epistles to thank God for believers bearing good fruit, enduring hardship, walking with integrity, and serving each other in love. Finally, who can't be thankful for the promise God gives to those who are qualified to share in His inheritance? As children of God, all the blessings of heaven are now ours in Christ Jesus. Since God is for us, it matters not who may try and oppose us. "By prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds." God be with you all...
