But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? Romans 10:14
It’s claimed that Saint Francis of Assisi said each man should always preach Christ and if necessary use words. The problem is no one can actually find these words (or anything similar) in his writings. Whether true or embellished, people have gripped this idea with a strong hand. Artwork has been made featuring these words. The quote has been shared in many small groups and Bible classes.
Nevertheless, the idea of letting your life convince others that you’re different comes straight from the Bible. 1 Peter 2:9 says, “You are a chosen people…God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
Your life can show there is a difference among those who follow Jesus, but some people will never ask why you’re different. Perhaps that’s why the apostle Paul said so dramatically in today’s verse that people need to actually hear you talk about Jesus and what He’s done. If they won’t ask and you don’t tell them, they miss opportunities to believe in the One who rescued you.
Let your life point to your faith…and let your mouth share what you believe.
