I heard about Jesus being in town. I had listened to what the others said of him before they told me "Be gone. We don't want the likes of you here."
I wiped tears from my rouged cheek. I looked at my small dwelling. What could I give to him? I grabbed my purse and emptied the money on the table. Digging into the wall, I pulled out the brick. My fingernails were dirty, but I wrapped my hand around the sack. I slung it over my shoulder and hefted it onto the table. Untying the sack, I let the coins drop.
Gathering the coins into a pile, I started to count. Would it be enough? I pushed the coins into the sack and left. I carried the sack to the market place.
Past the fruit stands, the jewelry sellers, and the apparel merchants. The fragrance of perfume aroused my senses before I came upon the table laden with jars, bottles, and pottery filled with inscence and perfume. "Please. I want the alabaster jar." I gave all my coins.
The perfume seller glared at me. I reached for the alabaster jar, staring at the man. He nodded, indicating I had enough money. Grasping the jar, I hugged it to my body. I ran, but slowed as the place where Jesus was came into view.
I gulped and stepped into the house. A servant saw me, but never spoke. I stood watching from the shadows.
Then, I walked up to Jesus. Tears fell from my eyes and onto his feet. I knelt and wiped them away with my hair.
I opened the jar and poured all the oil on his feet, wiping it with my hair. I stood up and bowed my head.
"Your sins are forgiven. Your faith has saved you, go in peace." (Luke 7:48, 50)
And I went.
