I sat at the table, emptying the jar of the money I had. I placed the coins in my purse and slowly rose from the table. I wrapped the black head covering over my graying hair. I tied the ends of the sash behind my back and the extra cloth under the tightened belt.

I grabbed my purse and walked to the door. I swallowed as I looked at the meager surroundings. Nothing fany remained. All that was left was the table, two chairs, a cot, some jars, and a water urn. And the coins.

I walked to the Temple. No one greeted me, but I am used to it now. I passed places people would think I should stop if they saw my cupboards. But I pressed on.

Then, I saw it. The Temple. I fumbled with the clasp of the purse. I was so nervous. What if the priest spoke of my small ofering to Yahweh? I could be humiliated and shunned.

I took a deep breath and walked into the place where the coins were collected. I saw a priest. He looked very grand in his robes. I almost wanted to run, but I smiled at him. I carefully released my coins into the vessel. Plop. Plop. I strolled away.

Thank you for your sacrifce.
