Rev 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

Rev 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Some people claim that the 7 churches represent sequential periods of church history.

What do you think?

@bibleguy

My thoughts are 7 is completion and all Christians seem to be grouped in these 7.
The sequential periods of the church history seem to encompass it but at the end Christ seems to be categorizing church members into one of these 7 churches.

Rev 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;
Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

The Bolded section makes it seem pretty straightforward and I have been finding relevancy of it in my studies and observations.

However that being the case if someone is no longer lukewarm i suspect they would be categorized in another church instead of Laodiceans?

Rev 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Ok! I was just curious what you thought.

Personally, I'm not sold on the "seven periods of church history" interpretation. I've yet to see a compelling reason to justify that interpretation.

So, I simply view the 7 churches as 7 LITERAL churches.

Sure, elements of the message to those churches can also apply to people at other times....but that's about it, it seems.

blessings...
