Hello all,

I recently had a discussion with a fellow whom claims he doesn't believe in supernatural beings, let alone God. One of the things he said to me was that he believes human beings can be good on their own without dependence on God. I would have loved to quote scriptures at that time and tell him that Bible says there is non that is good..However, this man doesn't believe in God so me quoting scriptures to him would be irrelevant. Anyhow, the way I see it, the only reason why we know how to be 'good', that is no killing, stealing is because of the laws that were taken from the Scriptures. I am of the opinion that without guidance, someone whom have grown up in solitude can't always decipher right from wrong. However, I could be mis-guided. God did make us quite intelligent. So my question is, given the following scenario, would an individual be able to be a socially moral individual?

Scenario (for the lack of a better one..): A child grows up in a deserted area, never sees another human being or animal in his life. All he has is a calculus book (don't want the poor thing to be bored to tears), food (fruit trees) and shelter..

Thanks!

I laughed at the calculus book...ugh! ....could`nt you give the poor kid a drum instead!

Would an individual be able to be a socially moral individual?

The answer to your question is a resounding NO.

I will give you a brief explanation as to why.

To "appear" to be moral or good, is a far cry from "being" good in the heart.

Jer 17:9 "Who can understand the human heart? There is nothing else so deceitful; it is too sick to be healed.

If the fellow you spoke with were honest (honesty being as rare as a man without self righteousness) he would have to admit to the depravity of his heart.

In fact his own testimony reveals how depraved his heart is, for to not believe in God is the greatest evil of man.

Rom 1:18 God's anger is revealed from heaven against all the sin and evil of the people whose evil ways prevent the truth from being known.
Rom 1:19 God punishes them, because what can be known about God is plain to them, for God himself made it plain.
Rom 1:20 Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen; they are perceived in the things that God has made. So those people have no excuse at all!
