As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7
When you accepted Jesus as Lord, His Spirit entered your heart and brought you eternal life. This verse then encourages you to continue to live as God's child, loving Him and obeying Him. Build your life on Him; sink your roots deep down into His truth, the scriptures, and be nourished by Him.
The idea is for the roots of your faith to become completely intertwined with Jesus, even as a tree's roots reach deep into the rich soil and spread completely throughout it. Today's verse says, "Be established in the faith," and both sinking your roots deep and receiving constant nourishment strengthen you.
First, if you roots go deep and wide in Christ and His teachings, you'll be solidly rooted and unshakable. "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord" (1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV). Second, you'll receive constant nourishment. Paul prayed, "That he would grant you…to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man" (Ephesians 3:16 NKJV).
Prayer: Dear Lord, establish me firmly in Your truth. Help me to search through Your Word, seeking spiritual nourishment. And help me to be solid and unmovable in You, I pray.
