Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law. Psalm 119:18
Have you ever sat down and watched your favorite movie, one you’ve watched several times before, and noticed something in that particular film you’d never noticed previously—maybe a line of dialogue or an action on the part of a key character that you somehow missed during past viewings?
The same thing can happen when you read your bible. As you read, you can find yourself focused for the first time on a particular word or phrase that hadn’t made much of an impression before. On that second or third (or fourth, fifth, or sixth) reading, it’s as if God has opened your eyes to some truth or some piece of wisdom you’d never before picked up on.
This is why it’s important to read your Bible daily, even if you’ve already read it cover to cover. And this is also why it’s important to devote your time of reading to the God who authorized every word of it. When you sit down and read your bible, even if you’re rereading a familiar passage, first stop and ask God to reveal what He wants to reveal to you in His Word that day. You might be amazed at how He’ll open your eyes to a new truth (new to you, that is!) you’d never seen before.
