I was asked to have a go at writing a psalm, and this is what I ended up with - I don't know if it is classed as a poem or not, but I wanted to share it.
Lord God I cry out to you from the depths of my heart
I know that you love me and want to help me
I try to do what you want but I am prevented by what people have done to me
I do believe in you, but I don’t understand you – when I think about your power and love it makes my head spin.
I wish I could understand you more, but I know that to love you, I just have to trust in you.
I wish I could speak to you, but I am scared of what I might say.
I am angry God, and although it looks like I blame you, I don’t. It’s just easy to be angry at you because I know you love me anyway and that you would never hurt me.
I thank you that you love me so much, that you created this world to live in, the things I love, like the sea, and animals, and the stars.
I thank you that you have given me friends in this world, who love me.
I thank you that when my world goes wrong, I know I still have a friend in you, and that you will never leave me or stop loving me.
Thank you that you loved me so much you gave your son to die so that I can be forgiven, and healed.
Please bring me the healing I need, so that I can live the way you want.
Thank you God for being my protector, my strength, my hope and my guide.
