The group is now listed in an IRS database for tax-exempt organizations.

SALEM, Mass. (AP) — The Satanic Temple says it’s been designated a church by the Internal Revenue Service.

The Salem, Massachusetts-based organization provided The Associated Press with a notice it recently received communicating its new tax-exempt status. The letter used a code that classifies it as a “church or a convention or association of churches.”

The group is now listed in an IRS database for tax-exempt organizations. An email seeking comment was sent to the IRS.

The group says the designation will help in religious discrimination legal cases and allow it to pursue faith-based government grants.

The “non-theistic” group advocates for a stricter separation of church and state. It placed a statue of the goat-headed creature Baphomet at the Arkansas State Capitol last year to call for the removal of a Ten Commandments monument.

Worship of the Goat Idol is nothing new. During the wanderings in the desert in Exodus, Israel had a brief stint worshipping goat idols. As punishment, their right to offer freely was taken away, and they had to bring all their offerings before the tabernacle and the priest.

Leviticus 17:7

7 They must no longer offer any of their sacrifices to the goat idols to whom they prostitute themselves. This is to be a lasting ordinance for them and for the generations to come.’

8 “Say to them: ‘Any Israelite or any foreigner residing among them who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice 9 and does not bring it to the entrance to the tent of meeting to sacrifice it to the Lord must be cut off from the people of Israel.

They claim to be atheists but why are they applying for church tax exempt status if they're not religious? Satan has them deceived.

I hope none of us are surprised. None theistic...but Satan is their god.....and one cannot be an atheist and not believe in God....How can you fight against someone whose existence you deny?

They're atheists provoking through Satire and they were founded by a conman who uses Pseudonym's to avoid detection.

They have every right to exercise their first amendment unalienable right. In the end they'll find out it wasn't so funny after all.
