Giving Unreservedly to others-or- Requiring Work or Responsibility of Others.
As we have seen, a persons responsibility during the readiness period differs greatly from the Christian responsibility in today's Church Age. For example, the Lord Jesus Christ preached readiness doctrine, making it clear that if a person asks for something or wants to borrow something, you are to give to him. One has no right to turn him away.
(KJB) Matthew 5:42
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
One can only imagine the abuse the Christian would endure if required to abide by this directive today. Can you imagine giving to any & every one who ask? People today would take advantage of us until we had nothing left to give. But when the Lord Jesus Christ rules on His throne during the future Millennial Kingdom, He will insure that no one gets away with taking advantage of anyone else.
If applying Matthew 5:42 dogmatically to hour Christian walk does not seem a problem for you, then you have not thoroughly considered its ramifications. For instance, if someone wanted to borrow your car or maybe your house for the weekend, would you turn him away? What would be your justification? It should be because you understand your Bible rightly divided ,& realize that giving to anyone who asks is a doctrine that will apply to those living during the Millennium & not to us in this Church Age.
God gives us different standards to follow today. He let's us know, through Paul we are under no obligation to give because a person ask. For example, He goes so far as to say that those who are unwilling to work should not eat.
"Church" (KJV)2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
The only way to know that our actions are right is by considering the commands given to us through our spokesman, the Apostle Paul (Romans 11:13). If a person ask to borrow something, he can be asked to work for it. We are under no obligation to give anything to anyone just because he asks (Matthew 5:42). Otherwise, we would be obligated to give every panhandler on the side of the road whatever handout he requests, whether it is food, money or personal belongings.
I would like emphasize caution. Our review of this subject should not be used as a justification to claim no responsibility to act in a Christian manner. However, if a person will not work, then we are not doing them wrong by not taking care of them in their sin. If they cannot work, we haVe a responsibility to help them. The devil is the "god of this world" right now ( 2 Corinfhians 4:4); therefore, we are commanded to hold people accountable for their actions ( Galatians 1:4).
Asking an able-bodied person to work is scriptural.
