And he gave them the lands of the nations, and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples' toil, that they might keep his statutes and observe his laws. Praise the LORD! Psalm 105:44-45 ESV
God didn’t stop caring for His people after He delivered them from bondage in Egypt. He covered them by cloud during the day and gave them fire at night. He fed them in abundance. And He remembered His holy promise to Abraham to make his descendants too numerous to count. His end goal was to have an obedient people who were thankful for His deliverance.
“That they might be properly instructed, and properly disciplined,” wrote Adam Clarke in his commentary about today’s verses. “This is the end proposed by Divine revelation: men are to be made wise unto salvation, and then to be brought under the yoke of obedience. He who is not conformed to God’s word shall not enter into Christ’s kingdom.”
What sort of bondage has Christ delivered you from? How has He cared for you since? His end goal is your obedience. Yes, the covenant of grace is in full effect and your sins are covered by the blood of Christ. That should motivate you to live in resolute obedience.
Prayer: Father, I thank and praise You for rescuing me from my pit of sin. In response, I want to live a life of obedience to You. Infuse me with resolve to do so.
