9 [ Six days you shall labor and do all your work, ]

10 [ but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD
your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your
on, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor
your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger
who is within your gates.]

11 [ For in six days the LORD made the heavens and
the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested
the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the
Sabbath day and hallowed it.]

I often receive email asking what day the Sabbath should be.
So today let us look into that matter and see why we do not
follow the 5th Commandment today.

Now the Solar calendar used in the time of Moses declared
Saturday as the seventh day. So does our calendar today.
So what changed to make our day of worship the first day
of the week, thus Sunday? Well we must go back in time
to about 300 A. D. to find that answer. You see, the Roman Ruler
Constantine, changed the day of worship because
he felt since Christ was resurrected on a Sunday it should be The
Lord's Day, and the best day to worship HIM. Therefore he
ordered all businesses closed on Sunday instead of Saturday.
He also pushed the early Church to follow that order as well.

Now they eventually did, and thus Sunday became the day
of worship instead of Saturday. Though we now worship
on Sunday's, Christians still follow the principle of the
command. For they dedicate time to the Lord by resting, by
praising HIM for HIS blessings, and by remembering HIS
saving acts written in the Bible, and attending Church.

Now before you think to harshly about Constantine or any-
one else, remember he was the one the made Christianity
legal by proclaiming "The Edict of Milan." That Edict
established tolerance for all religions including Christianity.
He further gave large sums of money to help the Christian
faith become what it is today.

Christians follow Christ.

The Jew was commanded to keep a day, but the Christian, whether Jew and Gentile (there is no difference) is commanded to keep Christ.

Christ has come, and whosoever will follow Him, will find no lack of rest in Him, that they should still need a day.


1Ti 3:16 By common confession, the secret of our godly worship is great: In flesh was he revealed to sight, Kept righteous by the Spirit's might, Adored by angels singing. To nations was he manifest, Believing souls found peace and rest, Our Lord in heaven reigning!

Col 2:6 So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live in him. For you have been rooted in him and are being built up and strengthened in the faith, just as you were taught, while you overflow with thanksgiving.

For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), yet for us there is but one God [compare this with the First Commandment], the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live." (1 Corinthians 8:4-6)

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother" [compare this with the Fifth Commandment] --which is the first commandment with a promise--"that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."" (Ephesians 6:1-3)

"Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him [compare this with the Sixth Commandment]." (1 John 3:15)​
The passages above (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 8:4-6, Ephesians 6:1-3, 1 Timothy 1:9-11, 20, and 1 John 3:15) demonstrate that nine of the Ten Commandments have counterparts in the New Testament, but notice that the Fourth Commandment (observing the Sabbath) is missing. There is no New Testament counterpart for the Fourth Commandment. The Sabbath has been completely canceled in Christ, and Christians are not required to observe it.

However, some people are not convinced that the Sabbath observance has been canceled, and other people believe that Sunday is now the "Christian Sabbath," Does the Bible supports these views?

First, notice that the apostle Paul explicitly tells us that we are not required to observe the Sabbath:
"One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord." (Romans 14:5-6)​
When Paul referred to one day being considered as more sacred than another, the first-century Jews would have easily understood that he was referring to the Sabbath. Paul's point was that the Sabbath can be considered as a special day, but it does not need to be regarded as sacred or special. Observing the Sabbath is not a requirement under the New Covenant.
