Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, Proverbs 1:25-26 NKJV
When people disregard wisdom’s advice, a relentless misery follows. No matter where they go, the evidence of their disregard eventually catches up.
Paul explained that those who prefer their own ideas and disdain instruction are easier marks for charlatans—those who pretend to have another’s best interests at heart: “You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel that the one you believed” (2 Corinthians 11:4). Deception is not the only misery that follows the immature.
Isaiah explained that the fool who disregards wisdom’s advice will not have a part in God’s future: “A great road will go through that once deserted land. It will be named the Highway of Holiness. Evil-minded people will never travel it. It will be only for those who walk in God’s ways; fools will never walk there” (Isaiah 35:8).
Reading the scriptures in this book and accepting the Spirit’s rebuke will help you avoid wisdom’s mockery and the manipulations of false preachers—and also will help you keep traveling the Highway of Holiness.
Prayer: Father, help me follow wisdom’s advice and accept the Spirit’s rebuke. Help me avoid relentless misery.
