Hello brothers and sisters,

I have a question about being slain in the Holy Spirit. I believe in the Holy Spirit and his work. My question is when people pray and they fall backward as the Holy Spirit rthem. As I search in the Bible there are no record of this happen in the Bible. How can we answer to those people who don't believe in falling before the Lord? Some even when on to say this is coming from Satan. Can someone shed some light and help me out. Thank you very much. The only reference I see relevent to this topic is Acts 10 when Peter when praying.

Slain in the Spirit

Hi Bro,

It's in early hours here in the UK so I'll make this brief for now. There lots of scriptures in the NT & the OT that record people having power encounters with the Holy Spirit. But Christians seem to just
miss them when they are reading the word. I think this probably because of or western humanistic world view, yes Christians are almost as bound by it as the world. It's one of the reasons some don't like Holy Spirit Christianity. It takes God out of their box of humanistic rationalism.

Anyway here's a few places you might start looking to begin with, Saul had some power encounters with the Lord' Spirit as did Daniel and Ezekiel, then there were the people who came to arrest Jesus they ended up on the floor a few times. Then theirs some of John's experiences in Revelation.

It helps if you define the term, ' Slain in the Spirit' too. Lots of people have been pushed into the hands of a catcher by an over enthusiastic evangelist, which is defiantly not being slain the Spirit. The real thing is a power encounter with the Holy Spirit, were all the natural strength in your body just seems to ebb away and you just go down or crumple on the floor. Sometimes you can have what seems like a sucking anointing where your stuck on the floor until the Lord has finished working out on you. It always does you the power of good though.

It's all a question of trust though, with Christians. The Lord does not take people into something were they are fearful. So it won't happen to someone unless they are confident that the Lord loves them and has their best interests at heart.

There is another type of being slain in the Spirit, were the Lord will incapacitate someone for a short while who plans to do something bad, I've only known it happen once in my experience.

Blessings,
Tonyb

Praise God, Glory to him. I not longer care for those who said it come from Satan because Guide verse 20 said it all, it about faith and the Holy Spirit inside of us. I judge myself and see no wrong doing. Matthew Chapter 10: 39-40 said it all also. I'm not against him. So it's become crystal clear to me that it come from God. Hallelujah, Blessed be the name of the Lord. I can't tell you how happy, I'm when I prayed about this issue and he answered me. As for me, Lord is my protection and he will never let me be ashamed. Psalm 71:1. Amen. Thank you brother Tony to help me out. God Bless you brother. He surely make me happy today.

Re: Question about "Slain in the Spirit"

One NT Scripture that seems to imply that this occurred is John 10:6 (When Judas and his cohorts come to arrest Jesus):

"When Jesus said 'I am he', they drew back and fell to the ground."

TonyB's post is a very good one for this subject and yes, some so-called evangelists do turn it into a circus. I was once in a meeting where the "evangelist" smacked people's foreheads with a blow that would have felled a mule. You were going down, Holy Spirit or no Holy Spirit.

Also, being slain in the spirit does not involve physical danger. God doesn't injure people inthe name of the Holy Spirit.

Yes brother, I happen to me four times overall. The first time I fall is when I confess my sin that I MB and watch porn. Which I no longer do. Thank God. The after that service end I would fall again. The three times I fall, God deliever me I message that I will be a missionary and he would use me as his tool. But after a year, situation have cause me to think that I'm not deserving and reject his call. Once again I fall and he comfort me will his message. I still am still undeserving with his calling but accept his calling, and that help me humble myself. No one touch me when I fall down and it was no pain when I hit the ground which is really hard. As we gather to pray I fall upon one lady, which I apologize afterward because clearly that wasn't my intention. Imagine if you faking it. There would be some pain as your head hit the ground. But my head hit the floor first and no pain what so ever. I was laying on the ground for a while as the Holy Spirit work to help me resolve my problem. When I went down again, it's like a mixture of heat and electric going through my spinal cord. But today as a discussion I was very hurt today when one pastor tell me falling down is the cause of Satan effect on us and that's unbiblical and not right. But I pray and God show me alot of verse to comfort me. Thank you brother Tony and brother SLE.

Well, I don't know but I don't always fall back I usually do fall to the other way or forward or to the right or left so I don't always faded from falling back but ummmmm I do feel the drunkenness so it is the holy spirit and I do dance in the spirit and some people would tell me why people look like they got seizures I would say there is a different from having the holy spirit then seizures because people do get the holy spirit longer then a seizures person so if a person having a seizures for the last 5 to 10 mins then you'll be dead by then so there is a different from dancing in the spirit in a mainstream way even there not dancing like regular kind a dances but you just feel the chills all over you because the anointing is all over you. Why? Because you was to think of something like this now; so if a person spill a cold water on you with ice you would jump feel the cold. Well? SO is having the holy spirit, DUHHH hehehehehe. Well I hope you get what I mean when I say feeling the anointing all over you but there are point in time where I kind a shaking like you have no idea but knowing that God is on me:boy_hug: :girl_hug: But really this happen to me like maybe 6 to 10 times I don't remember how many times that my pastor or other people lay hands on me but when I first got lay hands I did not really fall but I sort of fall to my pastor and he was grabbing me and he was still like laying hands on me and prophesying and speaking in tongues and all and because that was the day that I got save and felt if I was kind of flying but that was the last time I've ever felt like if I was flying or something.

And I told people this before and they said that’s the devil, well why would they say I rebuke the devil and yada yada yada when they call on jesus and say I bleed the blood of Jesus why'll laying hands on and you see people fall back or doing something and even laughing on the floor??? Why people do it when people cast out demons when some person is possess and that the pastor, bishop, ministers or who ever that could do it would lay hands that possessed person and if you think of that kind of stuff and people going to say that is of devil? They need to recognizes and think again what and how the Pentecostal movement do!

Hi,
When Jesus said "I am he" the fell backward. but you cannot refer to this as being similar to being slain in the spirit. You have to keep in mind that they fell backward becasue they came to "Arrest him" not "worship him"

God Bless,

This is what it says in John 18.5-6 KJV

they answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am [he]. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am [he], they went backward, and fell to the ground.

John 18:5-8 NIV
“Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.

“I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

7 Again he asked them, “Who is it you want?”

And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”

8 “I told you that I am he,” Jesus answered. “If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” 9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.”*

It is similar in that it displays the Holy Spirit's power, no matter what the motives of the men involved were at that moment.

I wonder what the long range effect was for the men who went down; Isn't it possible that they eventually came to Christ?

heres a verse for you

rev ch 1 verse 17 where john sees the glorified lord, he fell as a dead man. in my personal experience i sought after that and it never happened to me (yet) hee hee... but my faith does not rest in those things although i do believe in them. i do belive in the manifest power of the spirit, but i do disagree with some of the doctrines some churches teach about this subject.:lightning

do not limit The Holy Spirit

Have to share this with you after reading this. I agree with you about John 18.5-6 SpiritLedEd
Be still for a moment, - think and meditate on His majesty, His splendor and might. The Creator. And His Holy Spirit.
With the force that created the whole universe. Isn't that something which our human minds cannot fully fathom? I find it very understandable when this awesome power of Almighty God comes upon our human flesh, our flesh will get a reaction to this power. We still are in earthly vessels.

2Cor 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

Falling to the ground or fall to the knees I believe is the most normal thing to do when His power strikes.

Eph 1.19-20

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

Acts. 4.33:
And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

1Cor 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

Preachers pushing people to the floor is of course not of God. Had that experience too, raw muscle-power. Still I belive some evangelists may have a gift to act as a vessel for God's power and able to pass it on to others.

1. Cor 12.10
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

Guess a real touch from above does not harm anyone. That is never Gods intention. I heard of one flying through the room by the Holy Spirit landing back in the auditorium. No catchers got him LOL;) he got mighty changed by God.

Also have experienced the real thing, a lot of times, all alone worshipping Him. His Spirit comes upon me with power so great I have to fall down. I don't think this is weird I know my Lord and what He is like. I am positive it's absolutely not from the devil. Jesus opened up the way into the most Holy place to His presence:
Hebr.10.19 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

I choose using my boldness, going in there by His blood, experiencing His presence and power. I might fall down, that is never a problem rather a blessing. Just wanted to share this. It was burning in my heart. Be blessed
