Question about emerods

What are emerods?
1 Samuel 5:9 "And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction: and He smote the men of the city both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts."

My bible dictionary says emerods are hemorrhoids. Is that true?

If these are hemorrhoids, what about the scriptures in 1 Samuel 6:4, 5 where the philistines make five golden images of their emerods to give to the Israelites as a trespass offering to God? Is that really a favorable offering? An image of a hemorrhoid would be rather embarassing I think.

I looked up the NLT version and the message also. Both use the same word of tumour.

Thank you LLJ. So it's a tumour....hmm. And it affected their private parts too. So the image they made would have been like a bump. I guess I'm just trying to visualize those images they made.
