question about divorce..

Member
something has been bothering me and i need help understanding..
in matthew 19:9 it says

And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

I was married before and ended up getting divorced because my first wife left me and went to live with another man.. I was the one that started the paper work on the divorce and paid the fee ( this was after trying to work things out and lots of praying) now i am married again to a wonderful christian woman but i cant help but wonder was it a sin to marry again? i cant seem to find in the bible where it explains this..

Sounds like it was meant to be because you say she's a wonderful Christian woman. Plus, your ex is the one that left you in the first place for another man. Thats fornication on her end.

TheDrew, read 1 Corinthians 7. Strypes suggested this to me and also my christian counselor. I am going through a divorce right now. I felt very guilty but now I know I tried everything to keep my marriage together. He was verbally and physically abusive. We are not to be unequally yoked. You were deserted by your first wife and that is one of the few excusable reasons for divorce. Hope this helped.

Well if your former wife left you to live with another man then it is clear that your former wife was engaged in fornication. Therefore you are still following the Word. It is not a sin to marry again in this instance.
