Purgatory?

Anyone got any scripture to support it???

I grew up catholic and know it is taught, and the doctrine was used to raise funds for the church in years past.

I have never found any scripture that supports anything looking like purgatory, I see scripture that opposes the doctrine.

Having many family members that are catholic I would love to believe purgatory, but to me that takes away from what Jesus did.

the basic doctrine states you go to a place to be purified before going to heaven, this is for people who are only little sinners you know people who tell white lies etc...., and that is what I herd a priest say, I remember to this day.

It's very nearly as difficult to get into Purgatory as it is Heaven because when a
Catholic leaves this life with just one(1) un-absolved mortal sin on the books they
go straight to Hell; no stopover in a mid point.

Anyway, as to your inquiry; I have been a student of the Bible for going on 53
years and yet to discover, or be shown, any clear-cut, black and white, non vague
verses verifying the existence of a Purgatory. There are several verses that allude
to a Purgatory, but none I've seen that prove it beyond a shadow of sensible doubt.

btw: Heaven and Hell appear numerous times throughout the New Testament,
whereas a word for Purgatory never appears at all; not even once.

I just read on Wikipedia "History of Purgatory" where it says...

Roman Catholic Christians who believe in purgatory interpret passages such as 2 Maccabees 12:41–46, 2 Timothy 1:18, Matthew 12:32, Luke 16:19–16:26, Luke 23:43, 1 Corinthians 3:11–3:15 and Hebrews 12:29 as support for prayer for purgatorial souls who are believed to be within an active interim state for the dead undergoing purifying flames (which could be interpreted as an analogy or allegory) after death until purification allows admittance into heaven.

But I believe this is just a misinterpretation of the scriptures. Forgive if I am getting this wrong.... there is no purgatory. It is not found in the scriptures (that I see anyway) . It is my time here on earth where I repent, sanctify, consecrate.... and pray for those who are still alive to know the Lord. Death is a gateway of our choices made here on earth...Heaven or Hell is eternity. A difficult subject to talk about.

There is nothing in Scripture to support the doctrine of Purgatory. However, the passage you posted doesn't oppose that idea. This passage is a parable, and a judgment, against the leadership of Israel. It's not about what happens to people when they die. The Scriptures teach that when a man dies he returns to dust and the breath or spirit of life, from God, returns to God. There is nothing living on to go into Purgatory to be reformed.
