Prosperity Preachers

Quite possibly one of the most misused scriptures as it is related to Prosperity Preaching' is Luke 6:38

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

I find it highly grievious that the individuals who use this scriptire as their mitivator to get people to give money never take the verse in it's context and bring out the true intent of Jesus' heart when Jesus said those words!

Every person who uses that scripture ought in any type of ministry ought to USE all that Jesus really said as it related to THAT scripture!

Luke 6:27-38:

But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.

Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

I believe Jesus is speaking about how we as Christians must live out daily a sincere expression of Compassion towards others in this world.

He did it and we ought also to do it even as he did:

1st John 2:6:

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

There is a big difference between prospering and coveting wealth. Scripture speaks loudly and clearly about coveting wealth:

"Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful." (Mk 4:18-19)

"People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. (1 Tim 6:9-10a).

The church i gt to have gone from bad to worse over this money issue. The Bishop who is a great man of God around 75-80 handed over ministry to his son a few years and who i believe is also called of God however has allowed one scripture in word to tear down this whole ministry God has set up . people have slowly left over the years from once a full church of God fearing people to only a few family a friends. they collect offerings at every meeting i mean for pete's sake at the youth meeting , sunday school, sunday service two offerings plus tithes and pledges . add to that sunday evening so thats 6 collections in one day and this pastor litterally curse the people calling them Robbers and thieves if one cannot afford the tithe its sick imo really what money and the love of it did to this ministry the building is beautiful with great facilities inside . the building was in need of nothing really but now is almost desolate becuase pastor kept pulling out malachi and crucifying the members with it every sunday .

Your post reveals some of the truth about the religious system. First, that it is full of men who use titles like bishop to establish their positions. Second, their main objective is getting money and they do it by teaching lies and heresies like tithing and other old covenant practices. Third, the buildings are decorated with all the best the world has to offer, again another old covenant practice. The real robbers and thieves are those who who teach such things as truth, which makes those who are advocates of the religious system accessaries.

Position...money....buildings...the world...kind of drowns out the voice of the Master ...

2Pe 2:1 GNB False prophets appeared in the past among the people, and in the same way false teachers will appear among you. They will bring in destructive, untrue doctrines, and will deny the Master who redeemed them, and so they will bring upon themselves sudden destruction.
Even so, many will follow their immoral ways; and because of what they do, others will speak evil of the Way of truth.
In their greed these false teachers will make a profit out of telling you made-up stories. For a long time now their Judge has been ready, and their Destroyer has been wide awake! God did not spare the angels who sinned...

The preacher deny`s the Master (even tho Christs name be upon his lips and he preaches many sermons about Him)...if he teaches the people of God (by word or example) to follow after his greedy ways, instead of the way of Christ. Many would say, but my pastor/bishop is a good man...i`m sure God`s angels were "good" too...

God help us, far too many of this generations preachers standing on the worlds platforms, would have us lulled to sleep in beds of ease ...

I will defend the Bishop in this case who was ordained of God he's a man of God no doubt even he himself is not pleased with what his son has done he's so old now he cant even say anything much about it. . its his son who he turned over leadership responsibilities to who has turned his position into a dictatorship.

picture this for instance , they had pledges to pay off the building mortgage . many people got involved and pledged add to that offerings and tithes , now after the mortgage was finished being payed no one was informed of this they continued to collect pledges from the people. its was months after they made a public announcement so besides the few who heard a leak knew anything of this . is that not Robbery to the extreme and even after the announcement he urged people to continue pledging for what i dont know

Tithes & offerings are important, if your church dose not do Tithes & offerings I would left that place all ready in a sec because I not getting curse and get to be robbing God and I'm pretty sure small churches shut don't in a mouth or a year for not doing any Tithes & offerings along with people in the church being curse...:embarasse

I have been to churches were that is all they talk about. and extra offering to pay for the parking lot to be paved or a new building, they do get way out there... We are supposed to be about our Father's business not a building.. We could all meet in each other's home like they did in Acts. I pray we get back to that. I believe we will in the hard times coming upon believers. In Acts that is our example, Jesus gave us for church.
I give where the Lord leads, I do not listen to some man or woman tell me what to give. I believe if a building is supposed to stay then the Lord will make a way. Yes. we can tithe but tithing is not all about money, sometimes it is our time and many other things. Whenever somebody brings up tithing they think money. That is our mentality in this country. Go and talk to someone about the Lord or visit a widow that is tithing to me. Taking care of the widows, orphans and strangers, that is what Jesus said to do.

Oh, by the way did you know in the Old Testament about the tithes, that was taxes. It was like now us taxes, but we get taxed on everything. They had one tax and that is what their tithe was.

Blessings,
debbi
