I have a question...I'm a born-again believer I belong to a Baptist Church. My husband on the other hand belongs to an LDS (Mormon) church where they have a "prophet." The prophets of this church have been telling their members for years to continue to stock up on food items, toiletries, etc. Now that this pandemic has hit so many people are not able to buy food/t.p., etc., but we have been stocking up and now we are able to survive a two-week period of time or more due to this so-called "prophet's) so called revelation from the Lord, although he never mentioned any one particular incident just supposedly this prophet has said we all must have extra supplies because at some point we would need them. My question is how did he know? Is he a true prophet? I personally don't believe in current prophets I believe in the Holy Spirit and He tells me what I need to know. So how did this prophet know this was going to happen?? I DO NOT believe in the LDS church I believe it is a cult...so could this be a trick from Satan? Thank you all God bless. Tanya

As it was years that this "Prophet" has been warning I suppose it eventually comes true, especially being such a generalized warning. But unless they can pin point the problem can't say it is a prophet of God. Unlike Joseph where he was told they had 7 years to stock pile then 7 years of famine.
I can say from what I've heard about the LDS I would agree somewhat as to the cultish status. I was told they call you in and want to look at tax returns to make sure you paid your full 10% prior to taxes to the LDS group. Can you confirm or deny?

Thats a bigger subject than I am worthy to explore. One would have to read almost the entirety of the Old Testament to ascertain that info.
But looking at Moses, and many writers of the books and even David I'd have to say no. Rather they were quite deliberate in what was said. Maybe Samuel coming for
David as a boy and telling him he was chosen by God? Joseph and his dreams. Daniel and king Nebuchadnezzar?
At other times as in Isaiah, some of the prophecy has not come to pass yet and it was to be spiritually understood not plain and simple for it is food to those who are
spiritually more mature.
But this one of food and t.p. sounds like pretty general stuff. We know the day will come when we cannot buy or sell without the mark so stocking up is something
that could be looked at as end time issues, but I don't think we are to be afraid of anything as God will take care of our needs just like the Hebrews in the wilderness.
Nothing against Mormons but their addition of Joseph Smiths teaching is a bit weird to say the least. Not to mention tithing was done away with 2000 years ago.

If I tell you "One day you will travel"! Am I a prophet? The premise of the OP is not logical if one is persuaded that this is the qualification of a Prophet. Anyone can make a number of such vague general predictions and these are always subject to interpretation. However take Daniel 9 as an example....How many people in history, called the Messiah (anointed one) were cut off from the land of the living only to be followed by a coming prince that would destroy the Holy City of Jerusalem and that all this would cause ALL the sacrifices and oblations of Judaism to cease (and they did and have never been re-instituted to this day)?
See how this is so detailed with specifics and involves so many factors (even the actions of seemingly unrelated peoples)?
