Promises - Helper

Staff Member
With him [is] an arm of flesh; but with us [is] the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. (2 Chronicles 32:8)

In the Old Testament, the Lord always helped His people during times of war. Today, God still promises to be with us and help us fight our battles-both physical and spiritual. This is why we are told in Ephesians 6 to put on the armour of God. This armour is made up of the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, sandals of the preparation of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit or the Word of God. Another weapon we should use is prayer. Prayer is the way we talk to God and intercede on behalf of others. It is one of the most, if not the most, powerful weapon we have. Are you praying always?

In the OT the battles depicted were often on the outside between God's people and others [heathen or gentile], but in the NT and today the battles are occurring within the individual between the new or inner man and the old man. James put it like this:

"Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be." James 3:10

No, they ought not to be, but as a matter of fact it would seem that is so among so many are called followers of Christ.

Help us dear Lord!

We must all learn to rejoice in the knowledge which God has shared with us.

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of Whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Ephesians 3:14-21
