Proclaiming the Lord's Death

For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. 1 Corinthians 11:26

Communion is the most somber of celebrations because the Church looks back on what Christ did for us, recognizing that our sins led to His death, while also recognizing that His death led to our redemption. So Christians of all denominations partake in faith, and the mere act proclaims the Lord's death to a lost and dying world.

Why proclaim His death? Because He's the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world by laying down His life as the ultimate sacrifice. Nothing else shows the world that the Church is different--set apart for God's use--more than when they proclaim the Lord's death.

Regardless of how often your church celebrates communion, stir yourself up to earnestly desire to be there to partake in it. It's a glorious opportunity to wipe your slate clean and start fresh, while also encouraging unbelievers who might be seated around you to do the same the next time they have an opportunity. If they see that the Church is serious about their sin, perhaps they'll be inspired to be so as well.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I look forward to the next time my church offers communion. I'll be faithful to examine myself, to confess my sin, and to proclaim Your death until You return.
