"But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren. Deuteronomy 4:9 NLT
We humans tend to treasure certain types of memories, including weddings, the births of children, graduations…the list goes on and on. Opening up scrapbooks, viewing vacation videos, or just talking and recounting pleasant memories from the past are wonderful ways to spend an evening at home, and they can certainly strengthen family bonds.
It’s good to do the same thing with your Father in heaven. In several passages of scripture (including the verse above), God encourages His people to remember the amazing things He has done for them in the past.
So take the time to remember God’s goodness to you in the past. Think about the moment He saved you and made you part of His eternal family—and about how He’s helped you to grow into the man of God you are today. Remember the times He helped you out of a terrible jam or gave you wisdom about a certain situation. And consider those amazing instances when it was obvious that He had moved on your behalf as a direct result of prayer.
Prayer: Father, help me to remember Your goodness to me so that my faith in and love for You may remain strong and growing.
