Why Should I Pray for the Lost?
It's The Least You Can Do
Jesus died on the cross to bring men and women into a loving relationship with God. The least you can do is agree in prayer with His heart’s desire “that none should perish.”
(2Pe 3:9) The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
It’s What Jesus is Doing
If you want to be with Jesus, then be in intercession for those who don’t know Him. You will find no better fellowship with Christ than in the prayer closet pleading along with Him for souls.
(Heb 7:25) Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
You Will Reap an Eternal Reward
Those you pray into the Kingdom will be grateful for all eternity. Your joy in heaven will be magnified by those you have brought along with you.
(Matt. 6:19-21) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Spiritual Opposition Must be Defeated Spiritually
Before someone can receive the truth of the Gospel, the spirits of darkness that blind their eyes must be dealt with. This can only be done through prayer.
(2Co 4:4) The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
You Have a Cloud of Witnesses
For generations believers have been praying for souls, sacrificing, and dying to complete the Great Commission. They are watching and cheering you on now to run well your leg of the race. In this race, to run well, you must pray well.
(Heb 12:1) Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
To Hasten His Return
We are in partnership with Jesus. He is waiting to return until we have preached the Gospel to all nations. If you’re longing for Jesus to come back soon, then get on your knees and pray for souls.
(Mt 24:14) And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Fill Heaven With Joy
You can fill the halls of heaven with the echoes of celebration by praying just one person into the Kingdom. That’s a small investment for such a great privilege.
(Lu 15:7) I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
