Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Psalm 33:1 ESV
When was the last time you shouted because you were excited about something you were engaged in? Likely the most common response would have to do with sports. Your team scores and you cheer. The opponent does something underhanded, and you boo. You wear the jersey, talk about the game’s outcome with friends, and memorize the stats. You have a favorite team, and you want people to know and appreciate your team’s players…and maybe even become fans.
When you are unwavering in your thoughts about God, you have the freedom to shout for joy. Other people might hear it, and that’s a good thing. They need to know Jesus. Who better to share Him than you? What better time than now? How better than to speak words from your mouth?
Praise is like a well-tailored shirt. It just fits. Use it to honor God, and if others hear you, they might want to know more. The unwavering are unashamed. They share the truth because the truth has changed their perspective. The idea of people-pleasing has to make room for remembering God’s goodness and sharing it.
Prayer: Father, You are a blessing and I’m the blessed. You give and I receive. You are overwhelming and I’m overwhelmed. May my praise make the trip from my mind and heart to my mouth and actions.
