Pornography Is Not Love (part 2)

- June 18, 2005

The use of various forms of pornography entraps many people. Some of these individuals may be fathers, teachers, friends and neighbors. These are not "bad" people, per say, but merely individuals who have fallen prey to satan's sly methods. As does a hunter set out tasty bait to ensnare an animal, so too does satan attempt to provoke us with images which entice. The setting may seem a bit concerning as one stumbles upon pornography, but we often convince ourselves that we can outsmart whatever comes our way. Unsuspecting individuals may find themselves peeking for a few moments at an explicit ad which may pop up on the Internet. Once that curiosity has been piqued, the person may follow that ad to an inappropriate Web site, and before you know it, minutes can turn into hours, days, weeks, or months until a full-blown addiction to pornography has formed.

The Internet is a very useful tool, but like any environment, there are neighborhoods which are best completely avoided at all cost.

If you or someone you know is involved in pornography, there are precautions which can be taken. Along with adjusting your Internet settings to not allow pop-up ads, there are also safe-surf software programs which may be purchased, and which further help block harmful content from your surfing experiences. If you have been shopping at stores where inappropriate adult magazines and DVD's are available, do your shopping elsewhere. The risk of temptation simply isn't worth it, and God will bless your efforts to keep your mind and walk pure.

The key is to remove yourself from any temptations which may pull you back in to pornography's addicting lure. Most importantly, however, is the need to call out to God, not only asking for His cleansing forgiveness, but His strength and wisdom, so that you may better see where danger lurks.

Heavenly Father, thank you for helping us all desire and seek out the mind of Christ.
