One is compelled to speak upon this subject of temptation with a deep sympathy born out of hard experience. I know that temptations do not cease when you receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. Satan never relaxes his efforts.
We can never afford to be caught off guard. But here is the inspiration that comes from our victorious Captain Himself; that no matter how fierce, how overwhelming the forces that are arrayed against us, these are not greater than the forces that are with us and can lead us to victory.
Right in the very heat of the furnace there stands beside us "one like unto the Son of God", Dan 3:23... and he says to you and I "Oh brother Oh sister I also have felt the scorching flames.
I know what it means; I too have suffered being tempted, yet without sin - I was tempted in all points just as you are"
Can this really be true? 1.Cor 10:13
Can those words mean what they say? That the Lord Jesus Christ was really tempted in every point just as we are? Of course it means it: for this word of God means just what it says, and all that it says, and nothing else than what it says.
But He not only knows, He not only suffers with us when we are tempted, but it says "He is able to sucour them that are tempted" - "for in all these things it behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest....for He Himself hath suffered being tempted. He is also able to succour them that are tempted" Heb 2:18
That is the crux of the whole matter for you and I - He overcame and His power is available for us if we will use it. If we also want to overcome.
