I hear that phrase tossed around sometimes when people refer to the Bible.
What does that truly mean? I thought the Bible said all scripture was applicable. I guess this is somewhat of an english lesson haha. On the other hand, I guess it is digging deeper into scripture
Thank you

If we take just one scripture without understanding the author's intention, (and the Holy Spirit's intention!) of the entire passage, we can easily distort the meaning of any isolated verse, i.e. we must take the verse in the context of the entire passage and even the entire book.

The writers of the New Testament books and letters had specific objectives that they were addressing. It helps to uncover these objectives in order to have a clearer understanding of the contents.

I believe we must also take into consideration what the entire Bible says before forming fixed ideas on any given subject, whether that subject is prayer, marriage, the deity of Jesus Christ or salvation, etc. If we just rely on jiust one scripture, and are ignorant of other related scriptures, we may form lopsided and even incorrect opinions and beliefs.

All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, {2 Timothy 3:16 }
The Holy Bible is there to help us to understand what we need to know of GOD & of Jesus Christ. To help guide us in life & to keep the Teachings of GOD with us, whether through Jesus Christ or before Jesus Christ, which also teach of Jesus' Coming. The scriptures are there from GOD for our own good - to enlighten us, to comfort us, and to help protect us against harm, that only this wicked system could bring upon us.

GOD grants us wisdom through the Holy Spirit. He makes the Living Word come alive to you as you read. Ask for wisdom, and GOD will grant it to you.

Luke 21:15
for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.

Ephesians 1:17
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Yes, you are correct! And why it is so impotant not to " pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. {1Timothy 1:4}
And in John 14:21 - 28
21. He who has my commandments and obeys them - he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will clearly reveal myself to him."
22. Judas (not the Iscariot) asked, "Master, how is it that you will reveal yourself clearly to us and not to the world?"
23. "If any one loves me," replied Jesus, "he will obey my teaching; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
24. He who has no love for me does not obey my teaching; and yet the teaching to which you are listening is not mine, but is the teaching of the Father who sent me.
25. "All this I have spoken to you while still with you.
26. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will teach you everything, and will bring to your memories all that I have said to you.
27. Peace I leave with you: my own peace I give to you. It is not as the world gives its greetings that I give you peace. Let not your hearts be troubled or dismayed.
28. "You heard me say to you, 'I am going away, and yet I am coming to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced because I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I am.
