As Jesus was starting out on his way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to him, knelt down, and asked, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Mark 10:17 NLT
Jesus was a fan of the seemingly impossible. He performed amazing miracles. He told His disciples they could move mountains with a tiny amount of faith. But the best seemingly impossible thing Jesus did was clear the path to eternal life.
Unfortunately, for some it’s seemingly impossible to find it.
When the rich young ruler asked Jesus what he had to do to inherit eternal life, Jesus told him to follow the Old Testament law.
“’Teacher,’ the man replied, ‘I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was young.’ Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. ‘There is still one thing you haven’t done,’ he told him. ‘Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’ At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions” (Mark 10:20-22 NLt).
Jesus doesn’t want or need your possessions. He wasn’t saying the young man could buy his way into eternal life. He was pointing to the one thing the man didn’t want to give up.
What is the one thing holding you back from God?
Prayer: Lord, take everything I ha e so I can have everything You want to give me.
