Luke 5:37 Most commentators suggest that this is about not looking to the past things, things that seem better than what is present now.

Wine is not the important thing here. Good or bad wine depends on so many things such as Grape- weather, soil/ground, pruning etc. the wine -the grape used, blending, water & or additives, storage & not all young wine is less good to drink. etc etc.

It's about the total loss of both the wine & the container therefor the futility of the action.

What are your thoughts on this???,
what do you see in this parable????
what other interesting points have struck you in the parables???

He also told them a parable: "No one tears a patch from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. Otherwise, not only will he tear the new, but also the piece from the new garment will not match the old.

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, it will spill, and the skins will be ruined.

But new wine should be put into fresh wineskins.

And no one, after drinking old wine, wants new, because he says, 'The old is better.' LUKE 5:36-39

Laterunner, I'm very excited that you brought up this parable!

Almost 2 months ago, my husband was driving home from church and the Lord spoke to me about this parable. I actually started screaming (I tend to be emotional and dramatic), because the parable spoke to me directly about a situation in my life! I scared my husband because he thought we were about to have a car accident. My daughter thought I was crazy, and I also woke the baby sleeping in the car seat.

"The new wine!" I shouted at my flabbergasted husband. "The new wine!"

"Honey," he said condescendingly, "If you don't want to go out to eat, I will understand."

"No! I mean....yes! I do want to go out to eat.....but I have to tell you what God said about the new wine!

What it amounted to was some women from other churches had kicked me out of a ministry....a ministry that I was very involved in and have a lot of passion for. And I'd been wondering....'What now?'

When God spoke to me about Luke 5:37, he was telling me that I would form or join a NEW ministry. And you know what? I did. God opened new doors.

I'm no longer in jail ministry at this time, but I've joined a new ministry....and I'm volunteering at a halfway house 13 miles from here. God has really blessed! It is clearly, clearly GOD who has done this. And not only did He do this, but He spoke it out to me before it came about. Faithful King, Faithful Lord.:sun:

My teenage daughter also learned a valuable lesson that day. It directly reminded her that the Bible is relevant today for our every day life! God is still the same God! He still speaks through His Holy Word.

Light and Dark

Luke 5:37

37And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined.

I look at this as describing a lukewarm Christian. When you are saved the old self must be put away. The wineskins represent our bodies , soul and mind. The new wine represents , the Holy spirit and fruits of the spirit.

If when we become Christian and we are still entice by the world, it's secular music, it's Movies that contains 101 ways in breaking the ten commandments, drunkenness, sexual practices, occult practices ( many Christians read horoscope ) it's like asking the Holy Spirit into our old skins.

Light and darkness can not mix, you will be living a life of defeat for it's impossible to be luke warm and receive full anointing in your life. The enemy will eat you and spit you out for your lack of knowledge and you will be ruined
the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined.

We must become new wineskins.

Ephesians 4:22-23
22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds;

I look at it as light and dark can not mix when you become a Christian.
