Deuteronomy 12:13-14 Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest: But in the place which the LORD shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee
Church and fellowship. I really believe the subject of Church is something that even Christians have a hard time battling with. Especially on the internet, on Christian websites like these, you will find very often what you call “Lone Star Christians”. These are people who never go to church, who don’t have any Christian friends, yet they “love the Lord”. Or if they do go to church they are very often “church hoppers”, people who go from church to church on some great church odyssey looking for that place where everything is perfect for them.
Deuteronomy 12 is the perfect example of what Church is, straight from the mouth of Moses. First I will look at verse 13.
13Take heed to thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest:
God says “Don’t go to just any church to worship me”. This is in sharp contrast to the socety we live in, where we want everything confortable for us. We want a church where the Pastor doesn’t preach too long, but not too short either, where the song service is a five piece instrumental orchestra complete with singers and backup singers. We want a church with nice carpet, and confortable chairs. Where everybody greets you with a big ol’ smile and calls you “brother”, or “sister”. All these things are great, but what about the will of the Lord? What scares me is Christians who go to any church their wacky family members invite them to, here’s a free tip, not all churches are the same, and not all churches follow the bible. My grandmother got invited to church by my uncle’s girlfriend at the time, a “pentecostal” church, a nice church. What did she find? People literally vomiting to cast out “demons”, people shouting and convulsing and going crazy, acting like animals and doing all sorts of other nonsense. This is demonic of course, but my poor grandmother is a catholic, and this is the view now that she gets from Christian churches.
14But in the place which the LORD shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee
Here God says, “Not only will you go to the church I choose for you, but I will command you, you will offer your offerings there, and you will do My will.” I wonder how many Christians never stop to think about this scripture. This is basic Kingdom talk right here, yet so greatly overlooked in the Christian world. People leave churches at the drop of a hat, they have a small disagreement with a leader or a member, and you never see them again, where are they? Instead of resolving a problem they go off and vanish into another congregation, and start all over again. Don’t forget about the will of the Lord, remember that this is His church, and it is Him who puts people where He feels necessary.
Now on the subject of friends.
Hebrews 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
Christian friends, do we really need them? As I mentioned, we are living in a profound generation of Christians who do not accociate with other Christians. These loner Christians are content just being by themselves serving the Lord, I want to tell you this is deception straight from the pits of hell. I’ve said before I do not believe in the Superhero Christian, just kind of fighting his way through life, having a hard time, putting up a front and a stone chin before God. God intended people to have relationships with people, I wonder how many people fall short of their potential in the Kingdom because nobody ever prays for them? Or because they wont put their walls down long enough for anyone to try to enter in? The bible tells the account in 2 Samuel 21 of when David and his men were fighting the Philistines, when a giant relative of Goliath gets the upper hand on David and is about to kill him, but Abishai slays the giant, saving David’s life. God says it is not good for man to be alone.
God Bless, hope for some good insight.
