No Repentance of Sins in Peter's Gospel

@Jesus_is_LORD & @Lavenderfields & @Christ4Ever

Can you stop sinning before you are saved?
Of course people can stop sinning before they are saved.

I would say no because that is the whole point for why Jesus had to come; to save sinners from their sins and give us eternal life.
Jesus came to teach us the way and to reconcile us to God.

Plus if we can stop sinning before salvation,
There are people who obeyed God before they received the Holy Spirit.

why couldn't the Jews do it under the Old Covenant?
Many did.
That is the whole point of the law to school us into seeing our need for God to save us since we cannot save ourselves.
The law was to hold the people until Jesus came.
Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

You should fear that you are coming short of entering into His rest because of your unbelief that you refuse to believe that by believing in Him is how you enter into that new Covenant and how one is born again of the Spirit.
In Hebrews, we are told we have to obey, for they did not enter because they didn't obey.
If you are working by repenting from sins, then how is that you ceasing from your own work in order to enter into that rest?
Ceasing from our own work is ABOUT THE PURIFICATION WORKS.
NO ONE IN THE BIBLE IS EVER REBUKED FOR OBEYING GOD TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!
They are rebuked for being talked into doing the PURIFICATION WORKS OF THE LAW even AFTER Jesus came and died for us and is the purifier and the one who justifies now.

And yet to enter into that rest, that New Covenant, is by believing in Jesus Christ for eternal life.
Believing that his blood purifies us now and not the blood of lambs.
No, that is not all the scripture was deferring from in how one is born a son of God now. John 1:12-13 testifies that we receive Him not by our own will power nor by our own effort, but by believing in Him, even those who just believe in His name.
You are preaching against God who tells us to obey him.

If you can stop sinning before getting saved, then why couldn't the Jews do that under the Old Covenant?
There were many who did.
You just were taught wrong and now ensnared to keep to this false doctrine you are in.
Give it up for God's Truth, like I did too.
I tell you, I probably gave up more than you will ever.
I was a Catholic and took a lot of pride in my denomination, one of the oldest denominations, the most beautiful buildings and the stained glass windows, and all the paintings and statues and the gold and the earthly riches and the smoke and mirrors!
I gave up family and years of my life given to studies and ceremonies and the belief of my ancestors.

It is worth it to give it all up for God's Truth.
You are hanging onto your false faith alone teachings, even when you see God's words now for yourself.

Why doesn't scripture testify that they had stopped sinning and so God was glad to offer His Son to die for them? Because they didn't.
Jesus came first for those who were the lost sheep of Israel. They were sheep! Not all Jews were considered sheep. God cut them off and hardened them while Jesus was on earth and bound them to the same place as the disobedient Gentiles.
You keep excusing works as if only pertaining to purification works when it is everything and anything a man can do in trying to get themselves justified i.e. obtaining salvation.
The false faith alone beliefs were around during the APOSTLES time. James says the people who believed in it were foolish, and Peter says people misunderstand Paul and then he warns us to obey! See 2 Peter 3:16, 17.

Jesus came and made a new testament/covenant. It is based on faith that Jesus purifies us instead of the people purifying themselves with the works of the law, WHICH ARE THE PURIFICATION WORKS OF THE LAW.

Romans 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

If repentance of sins had to be done by the sinner before Jesus can save them, then it is no longer by grace that we have been saved by, now is it?
You go against Jesus who had John the baptizer prepare the way for him!
You go against the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
After John the baptizer was put in prison, Jesus and his disciples started the water baptizing!!!
You go against Jesus who says repent or perish.
That repentance is of SINS.

Active
I say they did through John the baptizer, don't you say that too? The Bible says so.
Not only did John the baptizer have people confess and repent of their sins,
after he was put in prison, Jesus and his disciples started water baptizing people.

There is only one God's Truth and only one way to get saved. We have to obey Jesus. and repent of our sins.

There are people who preach repent means to start believing in Jesus, and that that is all we need.
That is a false teaching that goes against Jesus.

That is not how the Bible says.
When we get saved, we are not sinners in Christ.
We are made perfect and holy through the blood of Jesus and the obedience to his word.

When a person wants to get saved and be a child of God's...reconciled to God...they come to Jesus and confess and repent of their sins, they crucify themselves to the sins of the world---they die to the sins of the world and live to please Jesus.
They call on Jesus to save them, to give them his Spirit.

We have to have faith that Jesus' blood will purify us, to wash all those sins away.
We are given the Spirit of Jesus to make his home in our heart, and that is reconciliation to God, and Jesus puts us in Him in heaven.
At that time we are born again, we have a new life without any sins, like a new born baby...we died and now are a new creation with God.

We are at that time perfect and holy, born again, and now we live our new life living up to what we just received.
We live our new lives pleasing Jesus by obeying Jesus.
We work out our salvation and we overcome sins, because we have the Helper Jesus the Spirit of God and the Father Himself living in us.
If we do sin after being born again, we confess it to Jesus and repent of it, as we train ourselves. Jesus lives to intercede for us.

What?
Where does the scriptures say that?
Our sins are hidden in Christ?

It is false teachings that you and they do.

You have been taught wrong about what Paul says about not of works. He is speaking about not of the works of the law, which are the purification works.
Some Jews tried to talk the Gentiles into still doing the old purification works of the law, they themselves would not stop preaching to obey special days, and circumcision of the flesh, and the observance of special days.

Right, but more than what the faith alone people say.

Right, we have to have effort and do the obeying what Jesus says to do to get saved.
I said in my own expression that we are justified by the blood of Jesus and I repented of my sins.

If I had been agreeing with you you would have read my post a different way and seen what I meant.
It doesn't matter how much I say I have repented of my sins and written about repentance you do not see it.

I could write out lines and say it and say it. You just say what I didn't say
Please now be humble and see where that is coming from.

I know that the number of years are not an indication of spiritual growth. I take it you have repented of your sins. Please tell me the year that first happened and your age if you don't mind.

@GodB4Us

The conflict of the old and new nature has been mentioned and in Romans 7and 8 and Galatians 5.
Paul teaches against those under the law and without faith.
We can see that there are many who had faith in God and obeyed Him.
The human flesh cannot please God Romans 8:8 and that's why the atonement was in our stead , through Jesus.
You were taught wrong about the human flesh cannot please God! The scriptures say those who only want to live to please their flesh---with sins---cannot please God.

You preach falseness and I see it.
You might very well of started obeying Jesus somewhere along the way, but you weren't saved until you started obeying him.
There are those who are ensnared to preach falseness, such as faith alone.
Even if you are one of those who do believe and obey now, you are still hindering people from understanding God and knowing Him better by your false teachings. People who preach what you do are even keeping some people from being saved.
I could write out lines and say it and say it. You just say what I didn't say
You are the one who is having the hard time with it, not me. I understand exactly what you are saying and what you believe. I have debated this doctrine and other renditions to it, for many years.
Please now be humble and see where that is coming from.
Did you ever think that you should obey Jesus and humble yourself, because that is what I preach, and it is what YOU and your ilk go against.
I preach to get understanding by believing and obeying.
Jesus tells us to humble ourselves.
I hope you try it.
I know that the number of years are not an indication of spiritual growth. I take it you have repented of your sins. Please tell me the year that first happened and your age if you don't mind.
I am no baby Christian, and, I won't say how long because it is a worldly argument.

The flesh cannot please God because the flesh falls short of the glory of God.
The flesh pertaining to the old nature.
I'm not talking about the life of the Holy Spirit and where a person does kind and practical things through the body, through God working through the person.

I'm meaning the old nature and it's desires.

Sure there is some aspects of good because humans were made in the image of God but that falls short of the glory of God because of the sin as well.

You said I was taught Calvinism and Lutheranism. Funny enough on another forum I was accused of being taught Armenianism.☺️

I'm seeing the two way Harmony. I'm not seeing inside denominations and boxes but looking without placing into categories.

We need to humble ourselves. We need to seek the truth with all our heart. We need to repent and be guided by God. All that and there's God's part as I already said in previous posts.

I hope one day you will see how you are making mistakes with your belief in being saved by works of the flesh.

As for you calling me after Arminius, you can't do that, because I go against many of his teachings.

You are going against what Jesus says, and you are trying to act like you know better as you explain things and reason falsely to try to justify your false teachings.

Jesus says why some people won't come to him to to be saved, it is because they love their sins more than they love the light.

You say so don't tell them they have to stop sinning!!! You preach against the Word of God.
If sinners are looking to Him to destroy the work of the devil in their lives in setting them free from their sins to no longer live in them, that is hardly loving sin more than coming to Him when they really are coming to Him to be free from sin.

That is His purpose and not just to give eternal life.

1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. <---- Those who hope in Him are believing in Him to do His work.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. <---- See His purpose?

2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. <--- It is repeated again for sinners to hope in Him for.

But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

The SINNERS...those who admitted they were sinners...they were baptized by the baptism of REPENTANCE OF SINS, and that IS WHY they entered the kingdom of heaven. WE ALL have to admit we are sinners to be saved.

Please ask me to prove what scripture what I said, if you don't know what I am talking about.

@Lavenderfields read it and understood it enough to like it.

So ask Jesus to help you read it and understand where I am coming from in testifying of our hope in Christ Jesus that He is not just offering eternal life for all who believe in Him, but to deliver them from their sins to be set free from their sins. All that takes is to believe in him that He will do that also.

Jesus tells us exactly what to do to be a an heir, a child of God's, and he starts out telling us to repent of your sins. It is to those who do that, and call on his name. No such thing as faith alone. Faith alone is dead and cannot save anyone.

Listen to the GOSPEL that PETER spoke to the Gentile Cornelius and his whole household:

Acts 10:33 Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”
34 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right. 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

So we can see that the gospel of Jesus Christ includes the baptism of repentance of sins, as was taught by John the baptizer and Jesus Christ himself.

Mark 1:1The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

2
As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

3The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

4John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. 5And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins. 6And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey; 7And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. 8I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

There are more scriptures that show us that the gospel of Jesus Christ begins with repenting of sins.
After John was put in prison, JESUS PREACHED THE SAME THING JOHN PREACHED, and that is to REPENT OF YOUR SINS OR PERISH.

Mark 1:14Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

You see that? All you ensnared to preach against confessing and repenting of sins to get saved?

The scriptures clearly show that the gospel of Jesus Christ begins with repenting of SINS.

The wrath that John the baptizer preached hasn't come yet, and the way to be saved from the wrath still stands---REPENT OF YOUR SINS.

The Parable of the Two Sons

Matthew 21:28“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’

29“ ‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.

30“Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.

31“Which of the two did what his father wanted?”

“The first,” they answered.

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

Jesus did not say repent of your sins but just repent. The problem here is you have to discern with Him what repenting from what that sin is and I am telling you it is to repent from unbelief by believing in Him is how we are saved.

30“Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.

31“Which of the two did what his father wanted?”

What Bible version are you using? Look at the KJV.

Matthew 21:32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

So repenting from unbelief by believing is how we are saved as Jesus is the way the truth and the life thus believing Jesus, the way of righteousness is salvation.

Let us look at the parable of the prodigal son where the loyal son remained and did all the Father has asked but not the prodigal son as he had asked for his inheritance and spent it all on wild living. Now the prodigal son can never get that back, but in spite of the wild living, he is still son, whereas the loyal son for doing everything the Father had asked and still doing it, all that the Father has was his, which is to say it is not the same for the prodigal son even though he is home saved for he is still son.

So there is a cost to not running that race as that loss will be felt keenly enough for it is no small thing, but neither is the power of God in salvation for all those that believe even those that just believe in His name for they are saved; John 1:12-13 & John 6:40 That is why there are vessels unto dishonor in His House that did not do everything the Father has asked and so they are in iniquity for why they are denied by Him Titus 1:16 & Matthew 7:21-23 & Luke 13:24-30 and left behind at the pre great tribulation rapture event in being damned as vessels unto dishonor but still in His House, vessels of wood and earth, note verse 20 in 2 Timothy 2:19-21 a glorified terrestrial inheritance when they are resurrected after the great tribulation in serving the King of kings on earth Revelation 20:1-6

Jesus did not say repent of your sins but just repent

What else can you repent of besides sin?

Luke 13:2; And Jesus said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered this fate?
Luke 13:3; "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
Luke 13:4; "Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse sinners than all the men who live in Jerusalem?
Luke 13:5; "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."

In verse 4 Jesus is talking about sinners. In verse 5, He says you need to repent.

Luke 17:3; "Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.
Luke 17:4; "And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' forgive him."

If someone sins.. well OK they need to repent.. if they do repent. They can be forgiven.

Luke 5:32; "I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."
