I have been young, and [now] am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. [He is] ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants [are] blessed. Psalm 37:25-26
It's one thing to recognize God as trustworthy in your own circumstances, but this is enhanced when you recognize God's faithful footsteps leading others over the years.
This psalm by King David reflects a life filled with years of perspective. What was David's reflection? Was it his strength as a warrior? Perhaps his time as a fugitive, running from Saul? No. His recollections were centered around other people. He saw that even in the most difficult times believers weren't abandoned, God' children had purpose, and God's generosity couldn't be questioned.
Not only was David convinced that God was trustworthy, but he also saw that He wasn't selective in compassion and mercy.
Perhaps God directed David to write these words so when you go through hard times, you'll see that this man who had a passion for God could remind you that whatever bad days you face, you'll never be beyond God's compassion.
Prayer: Lord, help me to look for Your faithfulness in the praises of Your people. You're good. I need to pay attention to How You help others. You don't exist just for my benefit. May I discover reasons to worship by rejoicing with others in Your compassion.
