Nicodemus

Nicodemus was of course a Pharisee. He only mentioned 5 times in the Bible.
All 5 verses are in John.

He is probably most famous for his discourse with Jesus about being born again and being born of the water and the Spirit.
John 3:1-10;
In John 7:50; it seems Nicodemus was trying to protect Jesus from some of the crowd.
Finally in John 19:39; we see that Nicodemus brought myrrh and aloes to Jesus's grave.

It seems from this last passage that Nicodemus had come to believe in who Jesus was. This is probably the most amazing verse for me. It seems that Nicodemus has been a Pharisee for quite some time. He certainly knew their ways and teachings. But yet in the end, it seems he was willing to step away from what he had been taught and what he was used to to, to reach for something new. I wonder sometimes if some of us aren't so stuck in our ways, the ways we have been taught for so long, that we are afraid to reach out to Jesus in a new way?

John 19:39; Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds weight.

It has been mentioned that a hundred pounds of aloe or myrrh would have been approximately $150,000 to $200,000 US dollars by today's standards.
Probably all of Nicodemus's life savings?

I wonder what we would be willing to give Jesus. I don't think He necessarily wants our money, but He does want our whole hearts.

I bet it was the easiest decision of his life to make as well. And I don't think he regretted it one bit when his Lord was raised from the dead on the third day either.

Jesus saved a number of Pharisees, whom I am proud to be numbered as a brother of.
