[It is of] the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. [They are] new every morning: great [is] thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV
Humanly speaking, the sight of the smoldering ruins of the great city of Jerusalem didn’t offer much in the way of hope. God had executed His judgment on His people, and now the city was left in utter desolation. But as the prophet Jeremiah, who had foretold what had happened, looked at the results of the Babylonian attack on the city, he found hope…in the same God who had just poured out His wrath.
Jeremiah’s heart was broken over what he saw, yet he still was able to write the words in today’s scripture passage. He saw much suffering and devastation, but he still remembered God’s tender compassion and faithfulness.
When you are going through difficult times, do you find yourself complaining and dwelling on your present situation, or do you turn to your loving, compassionate heavenly Father and thank Him from your heart for His goodness and for His acts of compassion toward you?
Prayer: Gracious, merciful God, thank You that I can wake up every morning aware of Your goodness, mercy, and love toward me. That is an amazing way for me to start each and every day.
